Porthleven is an attractive, unspoilt
fishing village in South West Cornwall situated in the
middle of Mount’s Bay. To the east lies the Lizard
Peninsula and to the west, Land’s End. The harbour
forms the centre of the village and is flanked on either
side by fishermans’ houses, shops and restaurants.
Porthleven has a wealth of coastal paths and country
lanes. One mile to the east of the village is the famous
Loe Pool, Loe Bar and the beautiful Penrose Woods, all
under the auspices of The National Trust. To the west
are coastal paths to Bishop’s Rock, Rinsey and
Praa Sands. There are two miles of beach and several
nearby golf courses, parks and sports centres. There
are regular bus services to Penzance, Falmouth and Truro.
Places to visit Porthleven has all the charms and amenities
to entertain those who want a relaxing holiday. There
are a host of other attractions in the area including
Flambards Theme Park and Poldark Mine. The famous cliffside
open air theatre at the Minack is a mere eighteen miles
away while the Tate Gallery only fifteen miles.
There are beaches to the east at Gunwalloe Church Cove,
the spectacular Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands, Maenporth,
Swanpool and Falmouth. To the west are Praa Sands, Marazion
and Porthcurnow.
To the east lie the picturesque villages of Mullion
Cove, Cadgwith, Roseland with its beautiful set church
at St Just and St Mawes with its Tudor Castle. To the
west is the famous St Michael’s Mount and Mousehole
while if you head in a northwest direction St Ives and
the rugged North Cornish coast beckons.
Truro, Cornwall’s cathedral city is only fifteen
miles away while the lovely Helford River, made famous
in Daphne Du Maurier’s novel Frenchman’s
Creek, and Gweek with its seal sanctuary are less than
ten miles away.
However, we believe that you’ll be content in
your cottage to stay at home and admire the beautiful
coastline and unique relaxed atmosphere.
