Description

Nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside Raleigh’s is a beautiful historic home the delights of the Dorset countryside are within a few moments walk of this beautiful home.  Built in 1580 IT once hosted a visit from Sir Walter Raleigh! Fully modernised and sleeping 6 comfortably it is located in the beautiful and historic village of Cerne Abbas.  The County Town of Dorchester 6 miles away this welcoming home offers couples and families with older children a cosy base for exploring the surrounding countryside with the award-winning Jurassic Coast a short drive away. Within a stroll are 3 excellent village pubs, shop and tearoom.  The famous Cerne Giant is within easy walking distance from the house and well worth a visit.

Raleigh’s has all the comforts of home and welcomes you from the moment you enter the cottage. The kitchen at the rear has an electric Aga, country kitchen table and chairs and doors onto a courtyard garden. The large sitting room has almost too many features to mention, from its large Inglenook fireplace with contemporary wood burning stove to the ceiling beams and oak window shutters. This space offers a comfortable relaxing spot for reading - a large library of books are provided - listening to music, catching up with loved ones and whiling away the evening as you watch the embers fade in the log burning stove. The garden is secure and enclosed with an alfresco eating space, Pizza Oven/BBQ and there is use of one portable bicycle (please request use when booking). Also on the ground floor there is a walk in shower room with WC and basin.

The features continue as you rise to the 1st floor on the fantastically uneven stairs to the panelled landing where you can retreat to listen to music, watch TV or spend some time alone and unwind. To the front is the 1st of the 3 bedrooms. The 3rd room is a double with ample hanging space, double bed and views to the bustling village street outside. The 2nd bedroom across the landing again is a double with feature fireplace (not in use), leaded window to the front and plenty of storage space. To the back of the cottage is the family bathroom which is well appointed and is next to the master bedroom with super-king size bedroom, ample storage space and overlooks the courtyard.

Further afield from Cerne Abbas you can find a wide choice of activities from exploring the towns of Dorchester, Sherborne and Bridport and places of interest like Maiden Castle, Nothe Fort and Portland Bill. With so many places to discover locally you will find something to do come rain or shine!

Reviews

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful village in a beautiful county! Thank you for letting us enjoy such a comfortable homely residence. The village is one of the friendliest we've been to. We recommend The Red Lion for the best pies! And Abbotsbury, Ringstead and Hardy's Monument for the best walks.

Previous Customer,

Many thanks for the use of this lovely cottage. We enjoyed our stay, despite the weather. Great food at The New Inn & Royal Oak, and there is lots of walking country just outside the village. Would definitely come here again! p.s. Thank you for the welcome pack.

G & J,

Many thanks for a comfortable stay at Raleigh's. Beautiful village with plenty of walks on the doorstep. This was out first family holiday since the pandemic and we really enjoyed it. We were lucky enough to be able to book a sunday lunch at The New Inn which was delicious.

The L Family,

What a wonderful stay we had at Raleigh's Cottage. warm, welcoming and quirky - this place was right up our alley. We enjoyed the local walks including up Giant Hill and visits further afield to Sherborne, Weymouth and Chesil Beach.

The A Family,

What an outstanding place to stay for New Years Eve. House, amenities and surroundings were fantastic. Exceeded all expectations and the roast in The New Inn was superb. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The C Family,

Many thanks for a comfortable stay at Raleighs - A beautiful village with plenty of walks on the doorstep. This was our first holiday since the pandemic & we really enjoyed it. We were lucky to be able to book a Sunday lunch at The New Inn which was delicious - We learnt we had to book well in advance to eat out! The Greyhound at Sydling St Nicholas is worth a visit (walk by the stream behind the pub is nice thing to do) & we enjoyed playing skittles at The Red Lion

Previous Customer,

Very quirky cottage with real character. Lovely courtyard garden that we enjoyed sitting out it. Excellent location in the village with some excellent pubs only a one minute walk away. Would definitely recommend.

Previous Customer,

A much needed hol/staycation! We arrived to a lovely surprise of a welcome package tea, coffee, beer ect. The cottage is so well equipped, the owners have thought of everything that is needed to make your stay comfortable so far the stat has been a delight! Went to The Greyhound Inn for supper - nice very good service! Food was good too! Had roast dinner at The New Inn (local) but it is best to book - Delish! Weymouth is definitely worth a visit for it's golden sandy beach and micro climate! In Lyme Regis today for a walk along the coast & lunch at the vegan cafe (Tierra), nice food! Very pleasant stay, thank you hosts for all the fab facilities!

Previous Customer,

We enjoyed our stay at Raleighs very much. The village is very special with lots of history. The weather during our stay was mostly wet and cold. The very modern log fire was put to good use and enjoyed by us all. Raleighs is fully equipped and comfortable. The terrace garden is well equipped with furniture and lovely plants. We found that the shower didn’t soak away quickly but was easy to use. All equipment linen and towels was top quality. We enjoyed our stay at Raleighs very much.
