Nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside Raleigh’s is a beautiful historic home the delights of the Dorset countryside are within a few moments walk of this beautiful home. Built in 1580 IT once hosted a visit from Sir Walter Raleigh! Fully modernised and sleeping 6 comfortably it is located in the beautiful and historic village of Cerne Abbas. The County Town of Dorchester 6 miles away this welcoming home offers couples and families with older children a cosy base for exploring the surrounding countryside with the award-winning Jurassic Coast a short drive away. Within a stroll are 3 excellent village pubs, shop and tearoom. The famous Cerne Giant is within easy walking distance from the house and well worth a visit.
Raleigh’s has all the comforts of home and welcomes you from the moment you enter the cottage. The kitchen at the rear has an electric Aga, country kitchen table and chairs and doors onto a courtyard garden. The large sitting room has almost too many features to mention, from its large Inglenook fireplace with contemporary wood burning stove to the ceiling beams and oak window shutters. This space offers a comfortable relaxing spot for reading - a large library of books are provided - listening to music, catching up with loved ones and whiling away the evening as you watch the embers fade in the log burning stove. The garden is secure and enclosed with an alfresco eating space, Pizza Oven/BBQ and there is use of one portable bicycle (please request use when booking). Also on the ground floor there is a walk in shower room with WC and basin.
The features continue as you rise to the 1st floor on the fantastically uneven stairs to the panelled landing where you can retreat to listen to music, watch TV or spend some time alone and unwind. To the front is the 1st of the 3 bedrooms. The 3rd room is a double with ample hanging space, double bed and views to the bustling village street outside. The 2nd bedroom across the landing again is a double with feature fireplace (not in use), leaded window to the front and plenty of storage space. To the back of the cottage is the family bathroom which is well appointed and is next to the master bedroom with super-king size bedroom, ample storage space and overlooks the courtyard.
Further afield from Cerne Abbas you can find a wide choice of activities from exploring the towns of Dorchester, Sherborne and Bridport and places of interest like Maiden Castle, Nothe Fort and Portland Bill. With so many places to discover locally you will find something to do come rain or shine!

Many thanks for a comfortable stay at Raleighs - A beautiful village with plenty of walks on the doorstep. This was our first holiday since the pandemic & we really enjoyed it. We were lucky to be able to book a Sunday lunch at The New Inn which was delicious - We learnt we had to book well in advance to eat out! The Greyhound at Sydling St Nicholas is worth a visit (walk by the stream behind the pub is nice thing to do) & we enjoyed playing skittles at The Red Lion
Very quirky cottage with real character. Lovely courtyard garden that we enjoyed sitting out it. Excellent location in the village with some excellent pubs only a one minute walk away. Would definitely recommend.
A much needed hol/staycation! We arrived to a lovely surprise of a welcome package tea, coffee, beer ect. The cottage is so well equipped, the owners have thought of everything that is needed to make your stay comfortable so far the stat has been a delight! Went to The Greyhound Inn for supper - nice very good service! Food was good too! Had roast dinner at The New Inn (local) but it is best to book - Delish! Weymouth is definitely worth a visit for it's golden sandy beach and micro climate! In Lyme Regis today for a walk along the coast & lunch at the vegan cafe (Tierra), nice food! Very pleasant stay, thank you hosts for all the fab facilities!
We enjoyed our stay at Raleighs very much. The village is very special with lots of history. The weather during our stay was mostly wet and cold. The very modern log fire was put to good use and enjoyed by us all. Raleighs is fully equipped and comfortable. The terrace garden is well equipped with furniture and lovely plants. We found that the shower didn’t soak away quickly but was easy to use. All equipment linen and towels was top quality. We enjoyed our stay at Raleighs very much. Thank you for sharing a wonderful property in Raleighs. We have had awful weather which has made the casseroles cooked in the aga even more enjoyable. We are so impressed with the comfort and set up. It has been a fantastic base to come home to after long windy walks. Our meal in the New Inn was 3 hours of perfection. Will be looking to return.
A beautifully presented, homely and stylish cottage which we have loved. Despite there only being the two of us we felt comfortable and at home. The Christmas decorations were a lovely touch. I wish we could move in. We had lovely meals at both The Greyhound and the New Inn both surpassed anything we have close to us. We will come back (hopefully with friends next time) and thank you for sharing your beautiful home.
Wonderful period cottage, an aladdin's cave of antiques. Super quiet location, lovely locals. Recommend the New Inn for food and drinks. Enjoyed West Bay Beach and also Lyme Regis. Keep up the cleanliness of the cottage - very impressed.
We have had such a lovely time at Raleighs, thank you. The house itself is like a lovingly curated museum. We love all the period touches and photos. Aside from exploring Cerne Abbas we have visited Dorchester, Weymouth, Burton Bradstock, Kingston Mauward and Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens.
Thank you for a very enjoyable stay! Lovely house, lovely location.
