Think Jane Austen, some antique pieces, a dash of modern art, all the mod cons you need plus a restful courtyard garden. Then add oodles of light, comfort and style. Welcome to your Georgian townhouse.
Period charm comes into its own at this delightful Georgian townhouse with an ideal location in the town of Deal, just steps away from the sea. Built in the mid 18th-century, its graceful elegance takes you right back to a Jane Austen novel. Original features such as double sash windows, shutters and lots of fireplaces sit perfectly in all the natural light under high ceilings.
Antique furniture placed just so next to the occasional splash of colour in the soft furnishings and the quirky modern art on the walls provide the perfect backdrop to your holiday. The sitting room runs the entire length of the house and offers relaxation in several spots. Will yours be an armchair next to a fireplace? Or the chaise longue looking out through the Juliet balcony?
Pop downstairs to your kitchen and dining area. Both again with original fireplaces. Wooden floors make a fine contrast to the black and white kitchen with stainless steel appliances. Yours could be the antique rocking chair by the fire – perfect for supervising the cooking as you sip a little something. Unless of course, you’re outside relaxing in the peaceful courtyard, surrounded by colourful seasonal pots.
The delights of Deal (and there are many) sit literally on your doorstep. Walk just a few steps and you’re on the seafront backing the shingle beach. Don’t miss the fishing boats coming in on the shore just south of the pier. Then explore the lovely shops and cafés before enjoying a meal at one of the excellent restaurants in town. The coastal cycle path takes you to Kingsdown via historic Deal castle while the glorious Kent countryside (think vineyards, orchards and gardens) lies on the horizon.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
Accommodation for 6 in three bedrooms. There’s one super king on the first floor with en suite bathroom, and two bedrooms on the second floor (one king and one double) plus shower room. Cloakroom in the basement.
Fabulous House. We all loved staying here. Beautifully decorated with a great kitchen, you have everything you need. The house is so close to the beach and we enjoyed wonderful walks along the coast. Deal is perfect for a weekend getaway and we had a great host.
Ashington House is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The space is really stylish but at the same time is super comfortable. I can see why some previous reviewers have said that they have struggled with children because the house is full of lovely antique furniture, but for adult travellers it was just perfect. A fantastic stay.
Ashington House is perfect! Great location, gorgeous courtyard garden, very comfortable beds, and a lovely interior. Thank you, we have enjoyed our wonderful weekend in sunny Deal. We hope to return very soon!
Fabulous House, beautifully decorated, right by the sea. Perfect combination of charm ad function. Can't recommend enough. Thank you!
We stayed in this property quite last minute and can't praise Laurence enough for his patience with dealing with our changing plans (and dates). We stay in Deal fairly regularly and this spot is perfect, very close to the beach and the shops, while still lovely and quiet. There were so many thoughtful touches - books on the area with added notes, toiletries and even xtra tooth brushes and cotton wool and lots of cleaning products to make our stay much more comfortable. All kitchen appliances were new and we had plenty of cips, plates and cutlery so we didn't need to bring much with us at all. Beds were incredibly comfortable and all the rooms were spacious.
Absolutely wonderful place. Comfiest beds, super stylish, perfect location.
