Description

Adventurer's rest

Tucked away between the River Rothay on one side and a winding stream the other, facing both open field views and woodlands on the slopes up to the 300-metre peak of Loughrigg Fell, is Waterside. This smart eco build has been furnished with a contemporary eye and practical brain, to provide the very best in Lakes accommodation. Even better, local materials and traditional craftsmen were employed to pay homage to the surrounding landscape.

The curved frontage of the property is faced with floor to ceiling glass doors and windows, flooding the interior with natural light and meaning the awe-inspiring view is rarely out of sight. Curl up on the sofas beside the modern log burner, or move to the other end of the open plan living space to fetch a drink or rustle up some supper. The vibe here is achingly current, with clean lines, neutral tones and gorgeous materials on every surface.

The perfect tonic when you’ve almost walked your legs off climbing peaks all day? Running the freestanding bath with hot water and bubbles for an extra-long soak, soft music playing and a good book in hand. Or laze on the silky linens of the comfortable bed, with the patio door open on a warm day to bring in the cool mountain breeze.

Outside, there is a spacious terrace area where you can watch the birds as you sip local beers and listen to the water softly trickling by. But, if your feet get itchy and you decide you simply can’t go even another moment without diving back into the breathtaking scenery to explore, you could do worse than the short stroll to the village pub, or a 20-minute wander along the river to Ambleside.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

There is space for four at wonderful Waterside. Its two bedrooms have king-size beds and en suites – one a bathroom with shower, the other a shower room.
