The Great Barn is a luxurious barn conversion sitting within 26 acres of private grounds overlooking Ullswater. The views from The Great Barn across the lake and to the fells beyond are stunning. The 17th-century barn is steeped in history but there’s every modern convenience available, all high quality and beautifully presented.
Up the private drive and through the electric gates you can enjoy the magnificent views from The Great Barn as soon as you arrive. If you wish you can also arrive by helicopter or boat as there’s facilities for both at this exceptional property.
As you enter The Great Barn you step into the impressive main reception room, the original beams, vaulted ceiling and large glass windows will make you marvel at this glorious property. The large reception room has a split level mezzanine area which is a cosy space, ideal for relaxing. The sumptuous seating in the main room is the perfect space for socialising together with your friends or family with two large TVs, integrated sound system and mood lighting (all controlled with Ipad technology). The main reception area can also be transformed for special occasion dining such as a wedding breakfast or function room. The sleek modern kitchen with everything you would expect is next to the main reception room. A few steps down from the kitchen is the superb dining room with floor to ceiling glass. Enjoy the impressive view of the spectacular surroundings while you dine together. There’s access to the large patio and seating area from here too. This super luxury barn is suitable for families or friends wishing to spend time in outstanding surroundings, both inside and out. Plus two dogs can accompany you too!
The beautiful stone curving staircase from the dining area takes you the first of four individually designed bedrooms. Each bedroom has it’s own TV and en-suite facilities with luxury fittings, toiletries, towels, robes and slippers. There are three king bedrooms and one super king bedroom in The Great Barn. Some of the bedrooms have exposed stone walls, beams, historic stone details, curved walls and striking interior design. Two bedrooms are off the main reception room, one of which has several steps into it, this bedroom also has it’s own access to the large outside patio. All bedrooms are unique and presented exquisitely.
Along with the spacious terrace, there’s a private boat jetty and 26 acres of grounds to enjoy. Make sure you keep a look out for the wild Martindale red deer which are the oldest native wild red deer herd in England and often visit the Waternook estate. There’s also half a mile of private lake shore which is surrounded by the jaw-dropping beauty of the Lake District fells, enjoy the seasonable changes when you stay at this truly unique property.

Walking from the door you can explore Hallin fell next to the property. Opposite the lake is the village of Glenridding where you can explore the impressive Aira Force waterfalls. Pooley Bridge is about 4 miles away at the opposite end of Ullswater, you can take a cruise on one of the historic steam boats from here. Hop on and off at Howtown and then walk to Glenridding if you want to explore the area on foot. Take the boat back to Pooley Bridge, a favourite walk of Wordsworths. One of the five vessels, The Lady of the Lake, has been in service since 1877 and is believed to be the oldest working passenger ferry in the world. Situated close to the Ullswater, there are many water activities nearby that you can enjoy; kayaking, canoeing, sailing and fishing to name a few. The attractive village of Pooley Bridge is at the northern tip of Ullswater, here you’ll find a variety of eateries, local shops and pubs to tempt you. If you want to explore further afield you are well located to explore Keswick and Derwent Water. Or you can visit Ambleside and Windermere via Kirkstone pass. This is a breath taking drive to the South Lakes area.
