Let romance blossom in the Cornish countryside. A romantic little barn on a working farm will wrap you up in its warm embrace, making this a place filled to the rafters with love.

Fall in love

The Cornish stone adorning the walls of this converted barn tells you a little about the history of The Granary. Once a storehouse for grain that would feed the nearby villages, today it has been reimagined with contemporary principles of style, comfort and sustainability.

At the entrance, you’ll pass a scented garden in which a covered barbecue grill and bistro furniture provide the perfect backdrop for a private meal in front of the sunset. Enter into the open-plan living area downstairs, where gorgeous slate flagstones provide effortless continuity throughout the space. Underfloor heating keeps the barn cosy all day long. The kitchen is compact but carefully thought-out, with plenty of cooking space for two and innovative appliances like a suspended microwave and hidden slimline dishwasher. In the lounge, cuddle up in the large snuggler armchairs, big enough for two, set around the clean lines of the modern log burner. Its extra-large window floods the room with dancing orange light when the fire roars.

Upstairs is your gorgeous bedroom. The barn’s designers went to extraordinary lengths not to break the space with doors or unnecessary distractions – and that’s never more evident than in the gentle architectural curve of the barn’s ceiling, lending this a loft-like feeling. The clean oak flooring and furniture are inspired by contemporary cottage chic, with dual-aspect windows looking out over the mature trees, swooping hedgerows and green fields of the rolling open countryside to the north and south.

Hop in the car or bring your bicycles for a ride down the lanes to St Mabyn, which boasts a fine dining restaurant, or St Tudy, where the traditional pub is full of the character of this historic place. Both have useful village shops. The River Allen passes within striking distance of the barn, lined with tranquil woodland walks. Port Isaac and the sea are less than 20 minutes away by car.

Bedroom and bathroom

This romantic retreat comes with a king-size bed and plenty of storage for beachwear or winter coats. The spacious bathroom comes with a deep freestanding bath, open walk-in drench shower and thermostatic shower and a vanity basin.

It was everything we expected. Totally comfortable, relaxing and we enjoyed our stay here. The welcome pack was a pleasant surprise of local produce.
