Description

Set off a quiet, winding road, high on the hill overlooking the valley, Foel Fach is secluded and has a quietness about it that belies the area’s rich history. Capturing all that is welcoming and warm about Wales, this endearing self-catering cottage is a great place for family and friends to reconnect.

Steeped in time and tradition

Featuring double-height exposed stone walls, slate floors, deep windows, and inglenook fireplaces in both the living room and dining room, Foel Fach is both bold and stylishly simple. And yet this simplicity is clearly well-chosen: and in an area bursting with Roman forts, hiking and mountain biking trails, and stories of rebel sons and princes, Foel Fach’s uncomplicated style becomes an embodiment of this traditional and rich legacy. What’s more is that the cosy seating, the fully-equipped kitchen, and the underfloor heating guarantee that this apparent lack of pretension has come at no cost whatsoever to comfort.

After a day of exploring, the beautiful dining room table is a great place to gather and rehash the day’s adventures. Or why not open a nice bottle of wine and have drinks and dine al fresco? Through the French doors in the living room, the cottage boasts a hospitably furnished patio with commanding views over the valley, and no better way to end the day

Bedrooms and bathrooms

In keeping with its rich sense of time, pride, and tradition, the master bedroom features prints by the local artist Ian Phillips as well as a beautiful, king-size iron-and-brass bed. After that, the double room offers more prints by Ian Phillips as well as a fantastic view over the valley. The single room also shares this view, and all three rooms share the use of the family bathroom with WC. For further convenience, there is a shower room with WC on the ground floor.

Practicalities

There is plenty of space for parking. A council maintained tarmac road most of the way to the cottage, thereafter it is a very well maintained hard level road with no potholes

A starter basket of logs is provided for your stay. Additional logs are available at £5 per basket. We can provide a high chair and travel cot, but ask that you please request these on booking and that you bring your own mattress and linen for the cot. We also ask that you bring your own charcoal for the barbeque. There is plenty of space for parking.

Special Note: If your stay is a special occasion, please let us know so that we can include an extra surprise on arrival. Please let us also know the age of any children in your party. Tesco home delivery is available at the property.

Reviews

"We were here for a week. With some directions from Sue we reached the beautiful cottage. A welcome gift eggs, milk, and cakes was waiting for us, with a nice bunch of flowers on the dining room table. The cottage is lovely and fully equipped. Sue & Edward are a lovely couple. Highly recommended. A cottage to be proud of.

Past Customer,

Foel Fach is a beautiful property which is very peaceful, a real home and exceptionally clean. We loved the attention to detail that Sue had put into the property and many extras were supplied such as a picnic blanket, ice buckets, a first aid kit and lots of kitchen items such as an electric cake whisk and cake tins. The quality of the bedding and towels is very high, clean and comfortable and as good you would expect in a hotel. We enjoyed walks around the farm and bbqs on the terrace with an evening drink overlooking the stunning scenery. We took our blue tooth speaker to the property and listened to music, safe in the knowledge that there was no one around to disturb except the sheep. We highly recommend this property for anyone who wishes to relax in a peaceful tranquil setting, safe in the knowledge that they wont be disturbed. Thank you Sue, Edward and your lovely girls for our wonderful holiday. Alex + John

Mrs M,

Thank you so much for the warm welsh welcome. Foel Fach is truly a home with many gorgeous details not found in other rental cottages. The decor of the house is so well done. We enjoyed sunny days, walks around the farm suggested by Edward. The views took our breath away. This is our 3rd holiday rental in Wales in 7 months and it is far superior to the others in terms of location and comfort. Although we have a policy of never going back to the same place twice, we hope to stay again. Thank you for all your hard work and for giving us a wonderful holiday"

Past Customer,

What a wonderful slice of heaven you have here, so peaceful and scenic. Even though the weather was less than ideal, my daughter and grand daughter (8 months) had a very memorable stay. Even the snowfall was enjoyable for us, such a novelty. We took so many pictures. We would love to see the area in the summer sometime too. My ancestors came from Wales, and it's wonderful to walk in the land where they once walked.

Past Customer,

We found this cottage online some three years ago and just saved it as a perfect go-to place if we ever got a chance. Later, we forgot about it, swamped with busy lives in London. When a chance came, we remembered that there was this perfect place and fortunately we were able to book. We loved everything, the view that keeps you looking, the silent and black nights, birds chirping in the garden, the lovely character of the cottage, cleanliness, attention to detail and the very kind and thoughtful way you received us. It felt like home but in a little paradise. Thank you so much

Past Customer,

"Dear Sue and Edward, Thank you so much for the great time here in Foel Fach. We enjoyed the time so much, we had a fantastic stay over Christmas and New Year. Your service was great and lovely, your bakery and the homemade gin was outstanding. The friendly sheep, squirrels, foxes and all the birds together with a quiet atmosphere, was the best we ever had" Love, Christel, Steven, Leoni & Almine From Hamburg 19th December - 8th January Diolch yn fawr

Mrs Christel K,

Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome in your beautiful cottage. We couldn't wait to return after our first visit and after a very stressful 2 years. The stunning scenery and wildlife have worked their magic again. Our dream of retiring to Wales is still very much alive and we look forward to coming back to Foel Fach while we look for a permanent home. This beautiful place will be a hard act to follow! Especially having such wonderful 'neighbours' as you both. You always make our visits an absolute joy with all the little extras you think of

Past Customer,

"We've had a lovely time staying in this wonderful cottage in such a beautiful part of Wales. We've done nothing except relax, go walking or running, eat nice food, and read. It's been a fabulous week for us, and just what we needed. The cottage is so well equipped, the best we've stayed in yet over the last 15 years of coming to Wales every year. We've been blessed with good wester this week, which had enhanced the beauty of the views. This is our first visit to Foel Fach, but it won't be out last. Joe and David Marchant, Kent 29th October - 5th November 2021"

Past Customer,

Thank you for a wonderful week in your fabulous cottage. The bara brith and welsh cakes on arrival were delicious. We've had a great time snuggling in front of the fire of an evening, having spent our days out exploring the area, despite the rain. The views from here are incredible, and we were lucky enough to have a clear night for some stargazing. Waw, have not seen so many stars for a long time! Watching the squirrels and birds on the feeder has been great, as well as walking along to visit the sheep and cows. We've all loved our week here, and spending family time in the gorgeous Welsh countryside. Thank you again, The Coopers and The Howlands, Farnborough 6th - 13th November"

Past Customer,

Dear Sue and Edward, Thank you so much for letting us stay in your cottage. It has been an amazing break for us. The dining room was lovely to sit in with the wood burner on, playing board games or reading a book. The view outside of the cottage is fantastic. Watching the sunrise and sunset were amazing. The sheep were nice company as well. We even managed to see the jets from the cottage which was amazing! The views were also perfect for me (Sophie) to paint. Thank you again,

Previous Customer,

Thank you so much once again for a fantastic stay. We really do not want to go home, the peace and quiet is absolutely wonderful. This is our second visit and looking back to our last comments there is nothing else to say but it's such a fantastic place to come to and totally relax. We will definitely be back again soon. The extra work you have put in i.e the pergola has just added to its charm. Thank you so much again for making us so welcome

Past Customer,

Thank you for letting us stay at your amazing cottage. We had an amazing time, and enjoyed the surroundings very much. We are so glad we chose to stay at your place. Foel Fach was absolutely stunning and very clean. The walks in the evening to the woods were definitely something special. We hope to come back and spend some quality time at your lovely place. Regards, Solmaz and Amir.

Past Customer,

Your cottage is a little piece of paradise and leaving is going to be very hard. As all your previous guests have said we can't fault the cottage and don't have words to describe the superb setting. We've felt surrounded by nature, watching the swallows feed their babies in the nest in the eaves, seeing the young wagtails playing on the terrace, fish jumping in the river Dyfi, ospreys nesting in the Dyfi valley, I could go on. Thanks for the evening chats and encouraging our dream of a small holding. Perhaps we might be neighbours one day. Thank you

Past Customer,

"Thank you very much for the stay. The cottage was spotless, the welcome warm and the cakes delicious. The views were stunning. We had so many wonderful days sitting out on the patio and under the pergola on a few damp days. After the trials and tribulations of the last 18 months this holiday has been definitely good for the soul."

Past Customer,

It seems that all the available positive superlatives have been used by previous reviewers to describe this cottage and its environs, and it is indeed certainly worthy of the bestowed adjulations. Our thanks to our hosts for a great welcome, and for their hard work in keeping the cottage, and gardens, at their very best.

Past Customer,

Thank you for a lovely cottage. We very much enjoyed our break. The walk up to the source of the River Severn and Wye and around Llyn Clywedog were stunning. Great days out in the sun to Aberdovey, Ynyslas and Aberystwyth. White water rafting at Bala lake was amazing. Thank you, we will be back.

Past Customer,

Very many thanks for your brilliant hospitality in this very special home. We have enjoyed walkes, on Glyndwr's way and at Lake Vyrnwy but most of all have relished the solitude around the house. With every thanks

Past Customer,

Of all the places we have stayed all over Wales this by far is number one. A wonderful place, inside and out. We feel incredibly sad to be leaving Foel Fach. This is our 4th visit and it feels like home. A 5* cottage in every way. Definitely the best in Wales. We hope to return before too long

Past Customer,

Thank you so much for letting us holiday in your beautiful cottage. It has only been 4 nights but feels like a fortnight. We are so relaxed and chilled out ready for the next phase of covid. The cottage is so welcoming and comfortable and lovely and 'cwtchy' when it goes dark. You have thought of everything and all the touches were very thoughtful. We have had some good walks all around the cottage. Thank you for a wonderful few days, we will definitely be back

Past Customer,

A beautiful cottage with stunning views. We enjoyed watching the sheep roaming in the fields and quiet evenings spent listening to the owls. Certainly the prettiest views in our longish lives (age 74 & 79) that myself and husband have enjoyed. All cottage facilities were all thought out and delightfully quirky. Pure delight. Many Thanks William & Harriet ( Rural Somerset)
