Description

A rural retreat in the wilds of Mid Wales, this beautiful, detached, property is the perfect self-catering home for family get-togethers, friend reunions and special occasions. A stunning, spacious, 5-star home tucked away on the outskirts of Snowdonia, Rhiwlas has breathtaking views from its private hot tub.

Valley views and peaceful living

The spacious cottage is split into two homes of equal size to accommodate its huge, 16-guest space. Both kitchens are equipped with beautiful, modern units, electric oven or range oven, dishwashers, fridge freezers, large slow cookers, and luxurious cafetieres for freshly-brewed morning coffees. Although each property has its own individual dining rooms, large families and groups love to gather around the enormous 16-person, oak dining table that enjoys stunning views through the large bay window. There’s also a library with a wide selection of books, local maps, and games for children and adults alike. Similar to the dining room arrangement, there are two welcoming lounge areas, both including Freeview TV and cosy wood burner stoves, with one living room accommodating eight guests, with the other the full part of 16.

Surrounded by private, enclosed gardens, children and adults have plenty of outdoor space to make the most of their rural retreat. Far-reaching views across the Dyfi Valley and estuary at every turn, the hot tub is perfect for scenic, late-summer nights. Enjoy peaceful, al-fresco dining in nature on the elevated, decked-dining area, and whip up a casual dinner on the luxury gas barbecue stove.

Within walking distance of a lovely village pub and restaurant, friends can spend evenings in the fresh, countryside air, with good company and cold drinks. The quaint market town of Machynlleth, known as the ancient capital of Wales, is laced with independent boutiques, mouthwatering local produce and thrilling mountain trails that lead right from the village centre.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Across the two sections, six double bedrooms and two attic spaces sleep 16 discerning guests in beautifully decorated, countryside rooms. All six doubles come with wall-mounted TV’s, window seats to enjoy the spectacular views, along with plenty of clothes storage space, and fluffy towels with the locally made Welsh soap provided. The two attic areas are laid out as twin bedrooms. There’s an additional landing space with children's toys, table and chairs to keep them entertained on cosy nights in. There are three en-suites across the rooms, and two family bathrooms in total, with a modern spa bath and freestanding bath respectively.

Practicalities

There is private parking available for up to five cars and a lockable garage for bike storage. We provide plenty of logs for the wood burner and gas for the BBQ. Baby items such as a high chair, travel cot and stair gate are all available on request, but guests are asked to bring their own cot linen. This property has it's own water supply which is tested and filtered.
The local Co-op shop can deliver groceries.

Reviews

A lovely, well equipped property with excellent mountain views from the hot tub. Great location for a 4 generation family holiday.

Mrs Elaine S,

This property was well equipped very clean. We are a group of 15 who have stayed in many large houses and this is by far the best. The hosts Annie and John were so friendly and welcoming and the bara brith was well received and delicious.

Mrs Karen W,

Location

Rhiwlas is a family run, beautiful holiday home in an elevated position that enjoys panoramic views over the Dyfi estuary. Set within its own grounds, it offers privacy as well as the benefit of being within walking distance to the village pub / restaurant in Derwenlas.

The vibrant and historic market town of Machynlleth (the Ancient Capital of Wales) is within 2 miles and a walking / cycling route from the village of Derwenlas gives you the option of going to town car-free. Machynlleth is home to Owain Glyndwr's Old Parliament House and also the oldest street market in Britain every Wednesday. In addition to the quirky shops, restaurants and cafés, it is also worth visiting MOMA Wales, a showcase of modern Welsh art. The town also offers a range of amenities such a supermarket, garages, banks and take-aways.

There are plenty of good restaurants nearby with Black Lion being the closest, more or less on your doorstep. Machynlleth offers restaurants such as Bistro Number 21, Wynnstay and the Pizzeria whilst Glan yr Afon and Y Garth in Pennal (6 miles) are also recommended. For some fine dining, you have a Michelin star restaurant just 4 miles away at Ynyshir. There are good local pubs as well, including the White Lion in Machynlleth with a range of good ale.

Rhiwlas offers easy access to beautiful sandy beaches, the university town of Aberystwyth and the delights of Snowdownia National Park. Some of the main attractions nearby include Ynys Hir RSBP Reserve, the Centre for Alternative Technology and King Arthur’s Labyrinth (an underground adventure). The Dyfi Osprey Project and Tal-y-llyn steam railway also offer good days out and for something totally different; why not venture to Blaenau Ffestiniog for some zip wire and Bounce Below adventure.
