Description
A stylish, 5-star hideaway in the blissful countryside of Mid Wales, Llety Tanllan comes with awe-inspiring views, a stunning games room, and can be optionally split into two, self-catering homes. Perfect for family get-togethers or large reunions, this little patch of Mid Wales has plenty of amazing day trips and memorable adventures to reconnect you with nature.
Breathtaking valley views
From its impressive and unique features to the beautifully quiet surroundings, this cottage is a home of true luxury. Set in an enclosed, gated area, miles of rugged hillsides, babbling brooks and open, country meadows sit at its doorstep.
Whether you’re dividing the accommodation in two or keeping the party together, this luxurious and spacious rural retreat can accommodate up to ten discerning guests. The stunning, bespoke, and hand-crafted kitchen is made from local Welsh oak, complemented by the beautiful slate worktops and ceramic sink. The countryside-inspired oak beams span the indulgent room, while the slate floors embody the rustic, rural location. Well-equipped with an electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwave, the kitchen opens onto the spacious living and dining areas, with a large table that looks out upon the breathtaking views of the valley and beyond.
A welcoming lounge with full, underfloor heating, feature wood burner stove, and wall-mounted TV is perfect for quality time together, whether you’re snuggling up with a family film, or playing board games around the table on breezy winter nights. The second open-plan living space is very similar in style to the first but is capable of hosting the full party of ten or for a cosy family of five. It also opens up into an adjoining sunroom, with far reaching views of the sunset.
The private garden gives access to the adjoining games room. A fantastic space for hosting the whole party, you’ll find a pool table, docking station for your favourite tunes, books and plenty of games. There’s an enclosed patio overlooking the expansive valley and Cambrian Mountain range, with comfortable garden furniture and barbeque for dining at sunset, and a children's play area for fun nights at home.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
The home boasts five, high standard bedrooms for ten guests. Across the rooms, you’ll find three king-size beds, a twin, and bunk bed space with spectacular views across Mid Wales. There are two, underfloor-heated, family bathrooms, both with luxurious baths for long soaks, powerful overhead showers, and warming towel rails. The quirky king-size room reminds you of the building’s previous life as a hayloft, with its feature stone walls, original beams and high ceilings. It’s also the only room to come with a beautiful en-suite, with large shower and underfloor heating.
Practicalities
There are plenty of off-road parking spaces to the side of the barn. A starter pack for your wood burner is provided and additional logs can be purchased for £4 per bag. Baby items such as a high chair, two travel cots and stair gates are all available on request, but guests are asked to bring their own cot linen. There are small supermarkets nearby, and a weekly street market in Machynlleth. Home deliveries can be organised through Tesco and Asda.
Location
This amazing barn conversion is in a blissfully quiet location where you can escape and relax in 5 star surroundings. Part of a traditional Welsh farmstead, it has been lovingly restored and renovated by its owners, National Trust Ranger and Art teacher, Rhodri and Elinor, who will be sure to give you a warm Welsh welcome. Enjoy the truly breath-taking views, watch red kites from your window, or explore Glyndwr’s Way just half a mile from the barn.
Llety Tanllan is surrounded by fields and organic farmland yet easily accessible, just 2 miles off the A470, and 7 miles from the vibrant market town of Machynlleth with its array of shops, pubs and cafes. It is also home to the old Welsh Parliament, dating back to 1404 and the oldest street market in Britain (every Wednesday). Head out to the beautiful beach at Aberdyfi (17 miles), or seek out adventures in the Snowdonia National Park in less than 15 minutes.
Amongst the best places to eat in the area are Number Twenty One Bistro and Wynnstay Hotel in Machynlleth (7 miles), Brigands Inn in Mallwyd (9 miles), Glan yr Afon in Pennal and for traditional pub food, Llew Coch in Dinas Mawddwy (both 11 miles). For take-away, Hennighans' Fish & Chip Shop of the Year is recommended, as well as Penrhos Arms. For fine dining, Ynyshir Hall (13 miles) has to be the one, with accolades such as a Michelin Star and 5 AA Rosettes, as well as appearing at no. 12 in the Good Food Guide 2017/18 and no. 15 in Harden's Best UK Restaurants 2017/2018. The nearest good pub can be found in Glantwymyn (3.5 miles), called Dyfi Valley Hotel.
Talyllyn narrow gauge railway offers a great day out, as does the Centre for Alternative Technology, a range of legendary castles (such as Castell y Bere and Harlech), Ynys Hir Nature Reserve and Dyfi Osprey Project, King Arthur’s Labyrinth and Corris Craft Centre. Also highly recommended is Coed y Brenin's mountain biking centre and a trip to Aberystywth (home to the National Library of Wales, the largest Arts Centre in Wales etc). On the way home, treat yourself to a fine meal and a film at Libanus 1877 (Boutique cinema and restaurant) in Borth.
