Description

They say that traditional values never go out of style. At Garden Cottage, that phrase has never been truer. Set in a private courtyard, this home may be inspired by cottage chic, but inside it’s a thoroughly modern haven to spend your days.

Old meets new

This modern property has been sensitively built using traditional materials and a timeless design sensibility. From outside, the natural colours of local stone marry effortlessly with soft pastel shades of paintwork and sweetly scented climbing roses. Step into the hallway, and a cosy snug waits to tempt you to choose from the bookshelf and settle into an armchair. Through the old-fashioned cottage doors, fitted with authentic Suffolk latches, is the beautiful open-plan living space, set in charming soft tones. The limestone floor, hand-built kitchen, electric Aga and authentic wood burner bring the best of traditional living, while French doors on the timber-clad conservatory and the innovative touches like plush sofas, curved kitchen units and integrated appliances make the place feel effortlessly contemporary.

Outside, discover why this house was named after its garden. The south-facing sun terrace will be bathed in golden light throughout the day whenever you visit, but it’s particularly welcome in spring until autumn when it becomes a sun trap you’ll never want to leave. Beyond the rose trellis is a formal landscaped garden, where an oval lawn is planted with year-round colour and you’ll find two solid wood heirloom benches hand-carved by craftsmen and full of intricate detail.

When you can bear to tear yourself away, wander down the road to two of the loveliest beaches in West Norfolk, where miles of golden sand are at their best when the sea is at low tide just a few moments before sunset. When the sky bursts with oranges, pinks and purples, the light is reflected in the wet sands and pools, making for a moving experience quite unlike any sunset you’ve seen before. Norfolk Lavender, around the corner, carpets the fields in deliciously-scented purple. Just along the coast at internationally renowned RSPB reserves, hundreds of thousands of geese and seabirds like knot and redshank treat lucky visitors to spectacular displays of aerial prowess over the gently undulating waters.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

There’s space for six at this gem of a coastal cottage, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The spacious master has a king-size bed with en suite and touch-control rain shower. The second bedroom has a double bed, while the third is a twin with two full-size single beds. There is also a dressing room with space for a cot. All the bedrooms have modern shutters to allow the cool sea breeze to wake you each morning.
