Description

Grandeur abounds despite the petiteness of your base. A true folly, savour its delights, large and small. Cosy up inside. Step straight out for wondrous walks. This is you time exemplified.

Bijou bolthole

Rarely is a country estate complete without its folly. This one is all yours. Exquisitely apt, its tip-top renovation retains a focus on enjoyment and escape. All you need to curl up and be cosy, to snuggle up and sleep, to stretch your legs and take in the air. It’s all here. But let there be no work here. No effort shall be called for. When it’s time to dine, it’s time to be served - elsewhere, off site, most teasingly in the nearby Victoria Inn or Wells Beach Cafe. Make use of the toaster, kettle and fridge if you really must!

However long you choose to stay, or return for, your Grade II listed gatehouse is unlike any other. Gloriously grand high ceilings and decorative plasterwork encase a bijou studio apartment. All on one level on the ground floor you’ll discover an open plan layout centred around an achingly large fireplace. The wood burning stove is suitably nurtured by deep seated, comfortable armchairs. Their wool blankets just there should you need them. Let the fire roar through the coolest of evenings. Let the deep stone walls keep you cool in the hottest of summer nights.

A rather opulent king size bed sits stately waiting for you to plunge into its proudly plumped linens. Crisp white sheets at the ready. An en suite shower room kick starts your day or soothes you into a quiet evening in.

It may take you some 15 minutes to walk from your haven at Palmers Folly to the centre of the Estate and Holkham Hall, but bring pooch along to enjoy the setting. Another 15 minutes beyond will steer you through the Holkham village and on to the beach. This pet friendly cottage makes for a wonderful base for a revitalising Norfolk walking holiday (just please keep man’s best friends on leads through the Holkham Hall grounds). The Estate alone provides many exploring options incorporating woodland and access to the golden sands.

Bedroom and bathroom

Palmers Folly sleeps two in a studio style open plan space including a sumptuous king size bed. There’s an en suite shower room and separate loo.

Reviews

Seclusion and comfort, beautiful location.

Mr B,

What a lovely stay! There is something quite magical about staying on the Holkham Estate. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves the North Norfolk Coast and the estate itself.

Mrs P,

Wonderful location for a nature filled holiday.

Ms G,

If you're looking for a peaceful break in a beautiful setting you won't be disappointed. Holkham Hall itself is a bonus as is the nearby beach and Wells Town.

Mr G,

Palmers Folly located on the Holkham estate was a perfect setting for a very quiet break surrounded by woods, parklands and wildlife. Also very close to the stunning North Norfolk coast and numerous country parks - perfect for a quiet reflective break,

Mr T,

Very clean and cosy property. Wonderful quiet location.

Prof S,

Wonderful location extremely peaceful.

Mrs B,

The cottage was in a perfect location and we were delighted with our choice. The goody bag was a nice touch but we would have preferred basics like milk, bread and butter as there are no shops in the immediate surroundings and frustrating if you arrive late. One loo roll (poor quality) was not enough for 3 nights. We had to wash our dishes outside as the shower and loo areas are tiny and this isn't clearly explained on your website. The mattress cover was stained and needs replacing. Communication was good getting to the cottage and it was easy to access when we arrived.

Mrs Sue G,

Told property didn’t have Wi-Fi or fridge and it had both. Glass in toilet door very unnecessary, needs changing to a solid door. Bigger door mat when you come in would be handy to try and capture most of what’s on your shoes as you enter, as this just ends up all around the bed area after day or two. Hangi g space would have also been handy. Other than that it was very nice.

Mr Gideon W,

We loved this little luxurious hideaway in the woods…perfect for dog walking and nature spotting. The Victoria is also amazing and we booked twice. We can’t wait to come back!

Mrs B,

Beautifully decorated and furnished room in a peaceful setting on the stunning Holkham Estate. Lovely surprise to see the Christmas tree in there too and a lovely wreath on the door. Has everything you need for a short stay - we loved it!
