It isn’t often you get the chance to stand guard to one of Norfolk’s finest country estates. And enjoy absolute peace and quiet in a rural getaway for just the two of you. You see that South Lodge East will give you both all of this from the moment you arrive at the entrance to the Holkham Estate. Yes, that is your retreat on the left. 

Built-in 1847, your lodge has a strong sense of history. You are, after all, staying on a historic family seat whose parklands and woodlands date back centuries. Beautifully restored, your getaway offers cosy, intimate accommodation in stylish elegance with stunning surroundings on your doorstep. 

Feature windows on sandstone walls open into a living room just for two where a plush leather sofa oozes comfort. You can almost feel the glow of the woodstove, perfect for the chillier months by the sea. Rustic motifs carry you through to the kitchen with literally all you need to create the perfect feast for two. 

Take it outside into your private walled garden and soak up the Norfolk sunshine as the two of you enjoy intimate al fresco dining. And then to explore your country estate. Miles of walks and cycle trails await you and your furry friends. Bike hire is available too. Don’t miss the lake, de rigueur in any discerning seat, and then make your way to Lady Anne’s Drive. Follow it north to the glorious sandy beaches this part of Norfolk does so very well. 

Wells-next-the-Sea lies just a short drive away – no need to worry about parking since your lodge comes with a free parking pass for the town and beaches. Discover the foodie feasts that await you with fresh local produce taking a delicious centre stage. And then head back home to your romantic retreat where it’s just you two again. 

Bedroom and bathroom 

South Lodge East sleeps two in a cosy bedroom with a king-sized bed set in elegant creams with scarlet accents. The adjoining bathroom has a walk-in shower.

What a lovely place to stay , it had everything we needed , and was in a wonderful location , where we could walk our dog for miles around the estate.

The cottage is just lovely. Quaint and modern at the same time. Having a Log Burner was great. Sheets and towels all excellent. The cottage was spotless. The walks from the front door were gorgeous. And I could walk or drive all the way down to Holkham Hall, park and walk round the lake and see the Deer Park. The birds and surrounding park, just glorious.
