Description

Originally built in 1846, Windham’s Barn has been tastefully restored to offer a luxurious and peaceful escape for families and groups of friends. Set within its own grounds at the heart of an historical farming estate, and completely surrounded by countryside, this self-catering conversion is also conveniently close to the hamlet of Thurgarton and the beautiful beaches of North Norfolk.

Stunning views from every room

The sophistication of Windham’s Barn is immediate. Greeting visitors with comfortable seating in the entrance hall, the area then leads to an open-plan dining room and fully-equipped kitchen, at the back of which is another sitting area. Under a full-length vaulted ceiling and exposed, original beams, the view and natural light pour in through full-height, sliding glass doors that run along the entire south side of the room, and which open on to the rear garden.

Separate from the dining room and kitchen area are a television room and a large sitting room. A fireplace makes for a beautiful focal point in the sitting room, and the French doors open on to the south-facing terrace. The Master bedroom is also on the ground floor and has a king-size, four-poster bed and patio doors that lead to its own terrace. It also has an en-suite bathroom and WC. Completing the ground floor are a utility room with washer and tumble dryer and a shower room with WC.

Just over a mile away is the quintessentially English village of Aldborough and another five miles to the north is Cromer and the coast, and 18-hole golf courses, while the Georgian market town of Holt is just eight miles west. For National Trust lovers, Felbrigg Hall, Blickling Hall, and Blakeney Point are also nearby. Visitors may never want to leave Windham’s Barn, though – there are lovely walks right outside the door, and there is even an enclosed hard tennis court on the grounds.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

The next four bedrooms and two bathrooms with WC are on the first floor. While the first bedroom has a king-size bed, the next two have super-king beds convertible to twin beds, and the last is the undisputed children’s room with a full-size bunk bed. Then, tucked away via a separate staircase, is the sixth and final bedroom in Windham’s Barn. This bedroom also has a super-king bed convertible to twin beds.

Practicalities

We welcome two well-behaved dogs. We are happy to provide a travel cot, high chair, two stair gates for your stay. If you require the super-king beds to be made up as twin beds, we ask that you please make this request on booking. We will require a £250 security deposit (£500 for New Year bookings), payable two weeks prior to your stay. The property has a driveway with parking space for up to six cars. Mobile phone reception is variable.

Special Note: Stag and hen parties are not permitted at this property. The property is approached by a single-track, unsurfaced lane which is also used by farm vehicles. The summer months are the harvesting period in the surrounding fields.
