Description

Sitting on the waterfront, and adjacent to Norfolk's only locked canal, this superb three-storey conversion of the 19th century Eldridge Mill Granary Building features balconies on all floors and stunning views over the mill pond and water meadows. Situated an easy two miles from North Walsham, there are walks, beaches, and the seaside town of Cromer, all virtually on the doorstep of this luxury self-catering treasure.

History with a touch of style

This former granary building features much of the wonderful structural woodwork that made up its original character and has been sensitively renovated to incorporate graceful, contemporary touches, such as the deep, plush sofas and the wood burner focal piece in the sitting room, in addition to a state-of-the-art 21st-century digital entertainment system. Wall-to-wall French doors in the background flood the room with natural light and open on to the ground floor balcony. Adding another touch of style are the lime green and white of the kitchen/dining room fixtures, juxtaposed with the traditional and warm brown hues of the beams and ceiling. Through the French doors in the kitchen, family and friends can step out onto the patio and garden.

Water and the abundant wildlife in the area play a big part at Canal Side. Not only are otters and Kingfishers frequently seen in the nearby water meadows, but there is also a launch not far from the property for kayak and canoe trips on the canal itself. For relaxing days and al fresco dining in the evenings, Canal Side features garden furniture on the patio, while the kitchen balcony boasts a table for two for a romantic glass of wine at sunset.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Three bedrooms and two full bathrooms make the first floor. The main bedroom is en-suite with all the luxury one would expect in such a setting, including a king-size bed, walk-in shower, and private balcony. Two more bedrooms and a shared bathroom complete the first-floor. The double in the second bathroom and the two twin beds in the third provide ample room to accommodate a large family or groups of friends.

Practicalities

We welcome one medium size dog. If your dog swims or paddles, please be aware that the garden is not dog proof. Also, if you have young children, they will need to be supervised at all times near the water as the disused canal running alongside the garden is not fenced. Mobile phone reception is variable.

Fantastic place to stay, very peaceful and absolutely huge inside! Everything you needed in the kitchen, comfy beds and close to beaches like Mundesley and Happisburgh. The garden was lovely and sunrise over the canal was beautiful. Couldn’t fault this place at all and will definitely return!

Canalside is a very comfortable and special place, with all the facilities for a relaxing break. The location is quiet and fantastic for walks in Bacton Wood. It has been our second stay here and will definitely book again.

Interesting property on three floors. Superbly modernised and all facilities were up to date and ample for a family of six. Views over the canal are lovely and there is a good sized garden with patio which we all enjoyed.

Just the best located place we have ever stayed - lots of wildlife - water voles, otters, birds - walks along the canal from the door, and very conveniently placed for lots of wildlife reserves and for the coast. Also close to all the main supermarkets etc, only 10 mins away, but the property is in a completely calm and quiet location.
