Description

Good design means making spaces that flow. From the outdoors in, between rooms and beyond. At The Barn, the designer’s focus on the unusual red brick detailing on the house’s exterior unlocked a world of inspiration within.

A world filled with colour

In years past, a market garden storehouse stood on the site of The Barn. Bright orange courgette flowers, purple potato blooms and cottage flowers destined for local traders would have made this a colourful place. Today, it’s your vibrant gem of a hideaway on the North Devon coast.

Using that striking red brick and natural Devonshire stone as their muse, the interior designers of the house have brought it to life with natural textures and materials, interspersed with pops of colour that add energy and fun to the more traditional elements. Perhaps the best example of that is in the first-floor living room, where an exposed oak vaulted ceiling has been constructed with care, detail and clean lines, whilst pillar box red seating in the space brings the attention down to eye level. From here, open the bi-folding full-length glass doors onto your private patio, with views out across the surrounding farmland and a barbecue for continental living.

Descend the statement oak stairs, left with their beautiful grain visible, into the kitchen where the calm tones of the tiled floor and granite counters are punctuated with deep cobalt kitchen units and doors. In the bedroom, that statement red returns on a quirky candy-striped ceiling with painted beams. This is a cottage that invites you to throw caution to the wind and experience everything that life has to offer – a place you’ll leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Bedroom and bathroom

The bedroom in this gorgeous retreat for two is on the ground floor. A super-king bed can be converted to twin singles by request at time of booking. If you’re sharing the place with a little one, there’s also a 2’6” day bed suitable for children. The bathroom, which is fitted with a pretty ceramic tiled floor, contains a spacious walk-in shower with two heads and a large vanity mirror.

Reviews

Lovely spacious and comfortable accommodation. Sheep and cows in the adjacent field. Garden not well enclosed for a dog.

Mrs H,

A lovely well appointed spacious apartment albeit a little way out of the main village. We were very impressed with the decor and facilities provided. Just a 10 minute walk to the Manor House Inn for good food and drinks. We visited in April when the weather was not good but the quality of the accommodation made up for the miserable weather.

Mr T,

Property is very modern, comfortable and the owners have thought of everything. Great location as there are 4 beaches within easy access, walking distance to Croyde Bay and local pubs that do great food.

Mr C,

Very quiet area. Property very spacious and well looked after. Really lovely property.

Mr F,

We absolutely loved our little barn for the weekend. It was beautifully finished, with all the amenities we needed, and the bed was absolutely huge!

Miss W,

We loved the way the barn had been converted and we were very impressed with the design and finish of the interior. A beautiful property throughout. The road into the town a little busy and narrow in places so would recommend future visitors wear something visible when walking. Some noise from passing cars could be heard inside the barn, but not unbearable. The foodie gifts were a nice touch- a pint of milk would be useful. .Also a mention that the coffee machine uses Nespresso pods in your kitchen inventory on the website, and a description of the length and available width of the driveway would help. FYI the toilet seat very difficult to use safely and comfortably as it’s not designed to fit on that particular WC. These are all small points we would like to bring to your attention. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Barn and would certainly choose to stay there again. Thank you

Mrs Julie L,
