Description

Set on a quiet lane leading down to Thornham Harbour, Admirals Lodge is an elegant self-catering cottage on the North West Norfolk Coast. With the coastal path on the doorstep, as well as a superb beach, a local ‘crabbing’ area for children, and the well-known, 500-year-old Lifeboat Inn just around the corner, families and groups of friends will delight in letting time slowly drift away.

Sophisticated and open

To better capture the views, Admirals Lodge makes use of its height with the sitting room and the kitchen/dining room on the first floor. This is also a reflection, in part, of its traditional design, but is equally key to the charming sense of nobility that suffuses the Lodge. Featuring plush furniture in the sitting room, the electric living flame fire and the wide view over farmland and marshes make it a wonderful place to gather and relax. Through a set of double doors at the far end of the sitting room is a second seating area, with a longer view down the lane. Overlooking the back garden is the bright, modern, and fully-equipped kitchen/dining room.

On chilly mornings, the Garden Room, at the back of the ground floor, is a great place to start the day. Quiet and comfy, it offers a warm view on to the rear garden. After a long day’s walk or an afternoon at the beach, the Garden Room opens on to the patio for al fresco drinks and dinner under the broad Norfolk sky.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Admirals Lodge is arranged in such a way that everyone can spread out and relax. The ground floor houses the first three bedrooms, all three of which provide the luxury of king size beds. The first bedroom further benefits from an en-suite shower room with WC. For everyone’s convenience, there is a second shower room, as well as a cloakroom with WC on the first floor.

The remaining two bedrooms are on the second floor, one with twin beds, and the other with a super-king bed. Accommodating these two rooms is a bathroom with WC. The two bedrooms also have views both to the east and to the west, so as to bask the rooms in the morning light and to better take in the beauty of a sunset.

Practicalities

We welcome a maximum of ten guests, which includes children and infants plus two dogs. We are happy to provide stair gates, a high chair, and a travel cot for your stay. On the weeks beginning 17/08/2018 and 16/08/2019, we will require a £500 security deposit two weeks prior to the start of your holiday. There is parking space for four cars at the property. Mobile phone reception is weak to variable.

Reviews

Admiral’s Lodge is a beautiful property ideally located for a holiday exploring the North Norfolk coast. The house is appointed and presented extremely well, tucked nicely away in beautiful Thornham and has a wealth of fine Norfolk pubs and restaurants just a stroll away. Coastal walks and abundant wildlife right from the doorstep. Our 14th family Christmas get together in North Norfolk and probably the best one yet. Would love to go back and do it all again.

Mr W,

The house and location were good and as we expected. We were disappointed with the beds, at a high end property such as this we would expect a memory foam mattress or equivalent these days. I am sure you will agree that it is very important to get a good nights sleep. The kitchen equipment was a little sketchy, no large salad bowls or serving plates were available. Also the cooker had an oven door that did not fully close. I hope these comments will help you to improve the property for other renters.
