Description
Step inside a spacious escape from all of life’s hustle, in the rolling Welsh countryside just a few miles from spectacular waterfalls. This achingly modern barn conversion is packed with confident design choices and a level of care to make your holiday very special indeed.
Quietly cutting-edge
The centrepiece of Ysgubor y Groes is its full-height open plan living space. Local stone, packed with texture and soft colours, reveals the shape of the barn, which meets in a point at its apex. A stylish wood burner stands in one corner, with a flue up to the roof. Dark slate tiles cover the floor, while the gigantic exposed oak beams of the vaulted ceiling support an impressive mezzanine level reached by floating glass stairs. Soft pastel shades in the kitchen pick out the blues in the stone, polished granite counters and upstands reflect the floor, while natural light bounces around the white ceilings to bathe you in sun. In cooler months, underfloor heating keeps things cosy.
The bedrooms are fitted out with more relaxing, muted tones and plenty of solid wood, with rich, warm oak floors and furniture. There’s also a snug up in the roof, where you’ll long to spend your mornings reading with a coffee while the sun rises and the birds come to life in song outside.
There’s a peaceful, enclosed garden with a lawn for games where the dog can run around, and a decked area with a hot tub to swoon over. It’s the perfect spot for celebratory bubbles or evening cocktails al fresco. Fire up the gas barbecue with some local Welsh lamb and make memories you’ll never forget.
The cottage is set in countryside just a mile or two from the valley of the River Rheidol, where Welsh Oak ancient woodland lines the banks and, not too far away, the magical Rheidol Falls tumble their way between the trees. The promenade of Aberystwyth is primed for traditional seaside days, there’s adventure to be had on National Cycle Routes and the relaxing countryside pace of life is always waiting.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
There are three spacious bedrooms and three bathrooms, meaning there is plenty of room for six. The first two have king-size beds and en suites with shower, while the third bedroom is a large twin. The main bathroom has a bath and hand shower.
