Nestled in the valleys of the stunning Snowdonia National Park – Gewllilwyd Fach is a breathtaking, 5-star, self-catering home in the North-West of Wales. An idyllic rural retreat, this traditionally renovated, 19th-century farmhouse sits along the foot of the mighty Cader Idris, within its own enclosed grounds and enjoys awe-inspiring views across the peaks of Snowdonia and beyond.
Farmhouse living in the heart of Snowdonia
A short drive through the countryside brings you to Dolgellau, a quaint market town with a fantastic range of restaurants, cafés and shops – perfect for evenings out or days exploring.
As you open the door to this beautiful holiday cottage, you’re greeted by the classic farmhouse-style decor, from its open wood beams to the slate tile floors. Cosy leather chesterfield chairs and a large dining table share the wood burner-warmed feature living space, with its quirky curved wall and traditional stone fireplace. In the parlour, exposed wooden beams, and a double sofa-bed for extra guests creates a homely feel. The spacious, cottage-style kitchen comes fully equipped, perfect for cooking up family treats, and includes a dishwasher, fridge and additional freezer, oven and washing machine to take care of all the family’s needs.
Stepping outside into the ‘Land of the Dragon’, the property has a spacious, tranquil garden with a beautiful stone picnic area, overlooking the mountains and valleys that line the horizon. If you want to bring your bikes to explore the surrounding paths and trails, the outhouse provides secure storage. While a comfy seating area and slate patio are ideal for barbeques at sunset.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
Heading upstairs, two bedrooms sleep up to four guests. The master is an impressive room with its super king oak bed, exposed beams, high ceilings and original wooden floorboards, along with the iconic curved wall. The second bedroom is a charming dual aspect double, available as a super king or twin singles, and has stunning views across the wilds of North Wales. The large family bathroom has a welcoming roll top bath for long, candlelit soaks, while the quadrant, rainfall shower offers a refreshing start to the day.
There is plenty of parking available. Baby items such as a high chair, travel cot and stair gate are all available on request, but guests are asked to bring their own cot linen. We are happy to provide a generous quantity of logs for the wood burner and you can purchase a further supply at £5 per basket. A double sofa bed is available for 2 extra guests for an additional £16 per night.

OMG! OMG! OMG! What a find, stunning cottage, stunning scenery. Just a big thank you to the owners for giving us the opportunity to stay in this place. The cottage is perfection, lovely touches with the welcome pack, furniture etc. just great. Location is second to none, we walked the Torrent Walk, Cader Idris via the pony path then back by the lakes - breathtaking. One day of wind and rain; no problem, just sit in the snug and watched the birds - lovely. Will be telling family and friends. Thank youMartin & Karen, West Sussex - 11th June 2019
What a beautiful cottage that provides a home away from home. There was not a single thing that we needed that was not already here. After a very long drive the milk in the fridge and shortbread etc. were a really lovely touch to find on arrival. We were really relaxed here and the bath and bed were very welcome after a long walk. Thank you for providing such a perfect holiday cottage in a beautiful location. We plan on coming back! Emily and Graham - Kent - May 2019Emily and Graham - Kent - 31st May 2019
Lovely house in a beautiful location - absolutely gorgeous, really peaceful. Great bedrooms and a lovely bathroom. Everything you need for a great holiday. Some beautiful walks straight out of the front door.Ann from Hitchin - 22nd March 2019
Real thought has been put into the décor and equipment in the cottage. We really appreciated the Christmas decorations. We have stayed at Gellilwyd Fach twice now and will again. The property itself is wonderfully furnished and equipped and the owners are on hand to check one has everything one might need. One couldn't have a better location: close to the little town of Dolgellau but so peaceful. We can't recommend it highly enough. Helen from Horley - 12th January 2019
The property was beautifully furnished and equipped and tastefully renovated to maintain the period features . The owners were very helpful and provided a lovely welcome pack of local produce and a bottle of wine. Would definitely consider returning .Mr Michael Gardner - 4th January 2019
Great cottage, excellent location, lovely owners, thanks.Jacqueline from Worcester - 6th November 2018
First stay in this beautiful house, won't be the last. The house is perfect and the location is amazing! We came for the Rally GB but I think that next year we will stay a little bit longer. More to discover around here. See you next year.Grégory from Switzerland - 8th October 2018
Diolch o galon! (Thank you from the bottom of our hearts) This is such a lovely cottage in a beautiful spot, loved watching the birds and the squirrels and soaking in the atmosphere. There are so many wonderful places in this part of the world, some just a short walk from Gellilwyd Fach! Really appreciated the welcome package and the fire, and the bathroom has to be seen to be believed! I know exactly where I'll be coming back to when I come back to Wales. We loved every minute of our stay.Jess & Alex from Melbourne, Australia - 2nd October 2018
From the website reviews, we were looking forward to a really great cottage, but this has exceeded our expectations in every way. The cottage is delightful and so well equipped. This is undoubtedly the best cottage we have ever stayed in, due to the peaceful magnificent location, with views of mountains, but also the loving and careful attention to detail and generous provision of “extras”. We can’t wait to return!Ruth and Andrew - 8th September 2018

What a wonderful place. So quiet and yet only a short car ride to Dolgellau. We will definitely return. Helen from Surrey - 30th March 2018
It was an absolute pleasure to stay in Gellilwyd Fach in the coldest week of the winter. Iola made us very extremely welcome and looked after us so well throughout the week. The welcome pack was awesome and we so appreciate the extra logs to keep us warm. An ideal venue with so much to offer. We will totally recommend this cottage and hope to return! Miss Emma Cusdin - 5th March 2018
This cottage was the perfect place to spend a quiet Christmas. The quality of the building is complimented by the quality of the furnishings and it is clear that the owners have spent time and money renovating the cottage to be sympathetic to its origins, make it such a wonderful place to stay. Even in winter, when many of the local attractions in the area are closed, with a pair of wellies you can just wander along the paths around the cottage, or drive to some of the well known walking trails (like The Torrents and The Precipice walk). Dolgellau has some delightful little independent stores and tea shops. The owners are friendly and will be on hand should you have a problem, or not if you prefer to be left alone. It pains me to share this little slice of heaven, but they deserve for it to be a success as they have obviously put their heart into the place. It's a little gem of a cottage.Couple from Peterborough - 28th December 2017
The owners of the property were so friendly and helpful, perfect house in a perfect location. Beautiful house with everything we needed, stunning countryside, friendly, helpful owners and excellent customer service from Best of Wales - yet again. Thank you. Booked the property over the phone, very helpful, pleasant, professional young man who dealt with us. Excellent customer service. Susan from Bristol - 18th December 2017
A beautiful, spacious and characterful cottage in a lovely setting and with all the facilities you could need. It was great to be able to walk all the way up Cadair Idris from the house, and to come back to a warm and cosy house after a cold, damp day on the mountain. The owner was very helpful in sending directions and other information.Rory Hodd - 2nd December 2017
A truly fantastic place, you won’t want to leave. I should say bad things so it’s available when we go back, which we will, as it was superb. The owners have done a fantastic job. Attention to detail is fantastic. Didn’t want to leave. Andrew from North Yorkshire - 13th November 2017
We came up for our 1 year wedding anniversary and have had a brilliant time. The house is gorgeous and had everything we could have needed! Would highly recommend this house and will definitely be back!Couple from Wiltshire - 12th November 2017
We have had a fantastic week here, the house is so comfortable and well kitted out, we wanted for nothing. The attention to detail is superb, which makes it even harder to leave! We did some great mountain bike riding in Coed y Brenin and Antur ‘Stiniog. We had some good meals out. We will definitely be back next year! Andrew, Judith and Peter from North Yorkshire - 6th November 2017
This is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location! So lucky to have found it on the website. The cottage is really cosy - lovely furniture and furnishings, and very well equipped. We had a lovely comfortable stay. We made the most of the weather and enjoyed some great walks. We also went to Blaenau Ffestiniog for the Titan Zipwire and Bounce Below as well as the White Water Rafting Centre near Bala.Jacqueline, Alex and Sophie from Worcestershire - 2nd September 2017
Beautiful, peaceful setting, characterful old farmhouse furnished and equipped to a very high standard. Welcome basket with local produce was very much appreciated. Enjoy the circular walk to lake from the doorstep and the local seasideKatharine - 8th August 2017
This is our second trip here, we stayed back in March and have just booked to come again in August - we love it here. It is so peaceful and quiet which is the antithesis of where we live near Gatwick. Dolgellau is a lovely little town and the views around are wonderful. We spent our time doing really rather little apart from reading and chatting and watching the birds, thing we never have the chance to do at home. We loved the Christmas touches - the decorations and the holly. Also how the cottage has been furnished. A really super cottage - thank you. Also continue to be impressed by Best of Wales - very good customer service. We look forward to seeing the area in summer.Couple from Horley
