Set in its own large and tranquil garden in the foothills of Cader Idris, Berthlwyd is a traditional Welsh stone cottage rich in elegance and history. With quaint pubs and restaurants in the nearby town of Dolgellau, and the golden beaches of Barmouth just nine miles away, Berthlwyd is a host of opportunities, no matter the time or mood.
Find luxury in the foothills
Standing peacefully in the countryside, just one mile from Dolgellau, this luxury self-catering cottage is a perfect base for families and small groups wanting to explore the Mawddach Trail and Snowdonia National Park’s southern hills and mountains. At Berthlwyd, guests can curl up by the wood burner and enjoy the panoramic view over the Mawddach valley. For those who don’t feel ready to settle inside yet after a day outdoors, a glass of wine and an al fresco dinner at the picnic table may be just the right way to bring your day to a close, while watching the stars slowly take over the sunset.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
With a cloakroom with WC on the ground floor, the two bedrooms and the family bathroom are on the first floor. There is a king-size room, while the main bedroom hosts a double bed as well as a single bed. Both bedrooms are wonderfully bright and enjoy the same traditional elegance that suffuses the rest of the house – wood floors, half-vaulted ceilings, and stunning views – there is no better way to make memories than a stay at Berthlwyd.
A starter basket of firewood is provided for your stay. Additional logs are available for £5 per basket load. We are also happy to provide a high chair, stair gate, and a travel cot, but ask that you please request these on booking.

Excellent property in an ideal location. Nice and private but we were aware we could call on the owners if we had any problems. Nice to find a pet free property.Mrs Linda Chambers - 23rd May 2019
Berthlwyd is a beautiful cottage in a very peaceful location, surrounded by fields just outside Dolgellau. It is near the lovely Mawddach Trail.Mr Dennis Sinclair - 12th May 2019
It's a high quality, beautiful cottage set in a perfect location in open countryside. It's a wonderful spacious and well presented cottage. There are beautiful views of Cadair Idris and the surrounding hills. It's only a 20 minute down the hill into Dolgellau, where there are several very good places to eat in the evening, as well as a range of coffee shops. It is a perfect place to relax and unwind and make the most of the local surroundings.Corinne from Coventry - 8th April 2019

Margaret was good. The Wi-Fi was good. Location was remote as we wanted but we walked to Dolgellau. Service from BoW was easy. Brilliant get away, thanks.Mr Tim Healy - 14th February 2018
A lovely cottage, really cosy and warm. Great to have the hot water on constant after our muddy runs and mountain biking. It was a great location for us. We had no problems getting a taxi home on the Saturday night - after a fantastic wine tasting! Great place to stay - and really helpful company. Would highly recommend.Dannie from North Ayrshire - 30th January 2018
High Spec and a Home from home.
Perfect host, close enough for help and turning up to say hello on arrival. Nothing any trouble. Lovely personal touches around cottage. Tapas in Barmouth too. 'The Tilman' in Barmouth unexpected and very tasty. Also well worth a visit Tapas at 'Tafan y Gader' in Dolgellau (same place that does Sunday lunch) a must visit!!! Plus 'Y Meirionnydd' superb food and a def must for that special night out!Ian - 3rd September 2017
Excellent, well equipped cottage with great views in a nice peaceful location, we had a great time.
Our top tips: Coed y Brenin bike routes (minortaur route great for families), Mawddach trail cycle ride to Barmouth and then get the ferry over to Fairbourne railway, NCN cycle route 8 to Corris was challenging but great. Lots of railways to keep enthusiasts happy. Cader Idris walks on a clear day, and all the shorter local walks when weather isn't so good.Beth from Co. Durham - 13th August 2017
Everything was perfect! Beautiful and very good equipped cottage in outstanding landscape.

Recommends: Steam railways and walking in lovely area.Les from Newcastle - 2nd July 2017
A wonderful cottage set in beautiful surroundings. The scenery and peace are breathtaking. Harlech Castle and beach were lovely, as was Bodnant Gardens a little further north. Well worth a day out there. There are so many places to walk locally or visit Barmouth with its long beach of golden sand.Corinne from Coventry - 26th June 2017
