Set off a quiet, winding road, high on the hill overlooking the valley, Foel Fach is secluded and has a quietness about it that belies the area’s rich history. Capturing all that is welcoming and warm about Wales, this endearing self-catering cottage is a great place for family and friends to reconnect.

Steeped in time and tradition

Featuring double-height exposed stone walls, slate floors, deep windows, and inglenook fireplaces in both the living room and dining room, Foel Fach is both bold and stylishly simple. And yet this simplicity is clearly well-chosen: and in an area bursting with Roman forts, hiking and mountain biking trails, and stories of rebel sons and princes, Foel Fach’s uncomplicated style becomes an embodiment of this traditional and rich legacy. What’s more is that the cosy seating, the fully-equipped kitchen, and the underfloor heating guarantee that this apparent lack of pretension has come at no cost whatsoever to comfort.

After a day of exploring, the beautiful dining room table is a great place to gather and rehash the day’s adventures. Or why not open a nice bottle of wine and have drinks and dine al fresco? Through the French doors in the living room, the cottage boasts a hospitably furnished patio with commanding views over the valley, and no better way to end the day

Bedrooms and bathrooms

In keeping with its rich sense of time, pride, and tradition, the master bedroom features prints by the local artist Ian Phillips as well as a beautiful, king-size iron-and-brass bed. After that, the double room offers more prints by Ian Phillips as well as a fantastic view over the valley. The single room also shares this view, and all three rooms share the use of the family bathroom with WC. For further convenience, there is a shower room with WC on the ground floor.

There is plenty of space for parking. A council maintained tarmac road most of the way to the cottage, thereafter it is a very well maintained hard level road with no potholes

A starter basket of logs is provided for your stay. Additional logs are available at £4 per basket. We can provide a high chair and travel cot, but ask that you please request these on booking and that you bring your own mattress and linen for the cot. We also ask that you bring your own charcoal for the barbeque. There is plenty of space for parking.

Special Note: If your stay is a special occasion, please let us know so that we can include an extra surprise on arrival. Please let us also know the age of any children in your party so that the owners can provide them with suitable toys and games. Tesco home delivery is available at the property. Strictly no groups of same sex. Families, friends and couples only.

What an amazing little cottage, fully equipped and loads of personal touches which were so thoughtful. Beautiful, peaceful and exactly what we needed to relax and recharge. Would highly recommend and we would love to come again.

Previous Customer,

Beautiful location. Stunning cottage.

Mrs R M,

When we arrived, we met the owner and he showed us to Foel Fach. Absolute perfection. The views from the cottage are stunning, especially with mist lingering in the valley. We have enjoyed our stay so much, and hope to return sooner rather than later. The owners made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you all so very much.

Previous Customer,

As I sit here writing this, all I see are the magnificent views with the sun pouring down on me through the window! I am sorry to leave such a lovely place, with everything you could want from a lovely cottage. Many thanks for every little detail that made our stay.

Mrs Bethany B,

Thanks to the owners for sharing your wonderful place with us. This has been one of our best stays and we have enjoyed all the little things in the cottage. The wonderful views from every window and patio and the warmth of the cottage itself. Our daughter has loved the walks and will miss the sheep and birds. We ventured out a bit and enjoyed the magnificent views at Elan Valley and the steam train to Devils bridge. It’s been a wonderful holiday and we will return another time

Previous Customer,

All the wonderful things we could say have already been said many times, so all we will say is “IT’S PERFECT “. Also hosts Sue & Edward made us feel like valued customers rather than just holiday makers staying at the cottage - with all the special touches and attention to detail. We will most definitely be returning ( very soon we hope) Wendy & Bob (Southampton)

Paradise found, a wonderful cottage, beautiful surroundings, and lovely hosts. The very best that Best Of Wales can offer. We've had a great time here, would like to stay much longer, I'm sure we will be back.

Previous Customer,

Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us. “Wow” simply just doesn’t cover it . What a beautiful cottage in stunning surroundings! The views are simply breathtaking. We packed so much stuff that we simply didn’t need - everything was provided for. Truly a ‘home away from home’. Our time here was short but very very sweet and we have thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I’m sure we’ll be back - Thank you!

The H,

Thank you for a wonderful week here at the cottage. Your hospitality has been more than we would have ever expected and we are very grateful. The beautiful and thoughtful touches in the cottage have made us feel very comfortable and relaxed. Our girls have also had a fabulous time and by far our most enjoyable moment of all was meeting your family and the little lambs and learning about the farm. It really was once in a lifetime moment which we will never forget. We came for peace, and we will be going away with that and much more. Thank you again

Previous Customer,

We have had such a fantastic time at Foel Fach. The views are breathtaking, and the cottage is beautiful. We felt so welcomed by Sue and Edward, whose hospitality was excellent. They really thought of everything! We shall miss this place very much- especially the cosy evenings in front of the fire! Thank you Sue and Edward - we hope to visit again in the future.

Couple from S,

5 Star Property! Everything about this cottage is beautiful, the furnishing, the bedding, the layout, the finishing touches, perfect. We felt at home and we all slept so well. We enjoyed our dinners and films next to the fires. The view was utterly amazing. We enjoyed days out in the beautiful countryside. We visited Lake Vyrnwy, absolutely stunning, Harlech Castle and Portmeirion, all a must. Our children loved every minute and so did we. The hosts, Edward and Sue, were SO welcoming and have thought of everything when you holiday here.

Previous Customer,

A very last minute booking bought us to this wonderful home and the delightful welcome from Sue and Edward who have made our stay so warm ( along with the weather- who would imagine having lunches outside in October in Mid-Wales!!) and comfortable. Thank you for all the provisions. This spot is so special, the peace and quiet, the views, and the sense that Sue & Edward really want their guests to have an amazing time with all the lovely 'extras', like the chocolates. Thank you so much for your warm welcome and for sharing 'Foelfach' with us . It really is 5 star

Previous Customer,

Foel Fach cottage is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Very peaceful with lovely views over the countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend this property if you want to get away from it all.

Helena from C,

Having arrived in the teeth of storm Callum and having been told by Edward on our arrival that there had recently been a power cut, we were slightly worried when Edward handed us a few torches " just incase" ! We needn't have worried - the weather improved so much during the week that by Thursday we were spending most of the day sunbathing outside and enjoying the truly spectacular views. What a fantastic location for a holiday cottage. You really couldn't wish for a better place to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet. The sheep, the rabbits, the pheasants, even the ladybirds all added to the experience! Thank you Edward and Sue for letting us stay at your wonderful cottage

The Smith F,

We couldn’t possibly have asked for more from our stay at Foelfach. Even during our short stay here we have been able to enjoy drizzly evenings by the fireside as well as sunbathing on the patio during the day! Everything from the arresting views to the luxurious touches have made this the invigorating yet restorative break that we were dreaming of. The cottage felt like home the moment we walked in the door. We will be back as soon as possible to visit this enchanting place again. Thank you so very much for making this a memorable, unrivaled holiday

Previous Customer,

This is a fabulous 5 star property come rain or shine. The owners deserve all the plaudits they have received in their Visitors Book - they are very special welcoming people. An exceptional property, which met all our needs and "home from home" comforts. Even in bad weather it was a delight to stay in Foel Fach. Excellent service from Best of Wales and any queries or concerns were dealt with promptly.

Eve from K,

Thank you Edward and Sue for providing us with the opportunity of enjoying a most delightful, relaxing and invigorating week. We were overwhelmed by its beauty, its grandeur and its peace. We acquainted ourselves with sections of Glyndwr's Way, and coped with vagaries of the local bus time table. Soaked up the splendour of the landscape and kept an eye on the birds and the sheep!

Mr G J,

Sue & Edward’s hospitality went way beyond any other holiday cottage that we have stayed in before. This is a truly lovely cottage in a beautiful environment! We look forward to returning ! Thank you both!

Previous Customer,

This cottage is gorgeous, I can't imagine anything more perfect! The views are breathtaking and beyond fabulous. I loved seeing the sheep on the fields in front of us. The baked goodies were all totally delicious. We have stayed in many places in this world but nothing can measure up to this place! Thank you so much Edward & Sue.

Previous Customer,

Beautiful isolated welsh cottage, stunning views and friendly sheep.

Mr Nathan A,

The cottage is amazing and the view is stunning! Edward & Sue have a beautiful cottage here. The attention to detail is perfect and you have made our stay a wonderful experience. We’ll miss the sheep in the morning! Thank you so much Amy & Nathan

Past Customer,

A beautiful cottage with stunning views. We enjoyed watching the sheep roaming in the fields and quiet evenings spent listening to the owls. Certainly the prettiest views in our longish lives (age 74 & 79) that myself and husband have enjoyed. All cottage facilities were all thought out and delightfully quirky. Pure delight. Many Thanks William & Harriet ( Rural Somerset)
