So which activity is top of your to-do list? Table tennis, swimming, the gym? The bar? Perhaps a stroll to the beach? There will never be a dull moment in this exceptional house for up to 16 guests.

Entertainment guaranteed

You’ll be sure of a warm welcome to this wonderful, huge Edwardian house overlooking Brixham harbour. Original features - the decorative plasterwork, oak panelling and high ceilings are balanced with contemporary touches that make living here a holidaymaker’s dream. Echoes of the first owner, wealthy local Charles Hellier in 1910, ground this house.

You’ll find it at the end of a private road, behind a stone gateway, nestled in pristine landscaped grounds, with sea views from the gardens and verandas. Perhaps you’ll spot the hunting lodge decor, antiques and chandelier-lit oak staircase by the iridescent stained glass window in the grand entrance hall. Perhaps you’ll notice the 180 degree sea views over Brixham Breakwater from the main drawing room, or the oak-panelled dining room with original stone hearth - just ready for a roaring fire later. There’s so much to take in.

The country kitchen is the perfect vision of luxury self-catering - complete with a separate preparation area if you’d like to hire in caterers to help with a large group. Outside, you’ll see a stunning al fresco dining area with brick BBQ.

When you’re ready for a spot of competition, assemble teams in the dedicated ‘fun floor’ with its own bar, table tennis, playroom with blackboard wall, gym and indoor heated pool. A full size snooker room is just waiting to be discovered on the ground floor.

Friendly housekeepers live in the lower ground floor apartment and are always on hand.

If you ever exhaust the entertainment in the house, venture out to the gorgeous chalky beach below - Brixham Breakwater, and the shops, tearooms and impressive fish market in Brixham. Discover the remains of an Iron Age hill fort at Berry Head and the nature haven between Berry Head and Sharkham Point. Vibrant Torquay and picturesque Paignton are within striking distance.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Relish the country house hotel vibe of the eight grand bedrooms, each with its little flourishes - a French bed here, ornate marble mantelpieces there. The bathrooms are lavish - one has an Edwardian style bathtub just ready for you to sink into luxury.

We had a brilliant time the property has improved since our last stay 5 years ago. Simply the best!
