Oozing taste, thoughtfulness, and acreage, this family-sized pad is brimful with luxurious touches. Rave about this Devon rural retreat for years to come with its sprawling garden and spacious interiors.

Rural hub

With room for all the family or that perfectly packaged group of friends, retreat to Rattery, or its village outskirts at least, and savor time with the best people in your life. Heron’s Haunt is majestically peaceful in its acre of gardens encased by mature trees and little more than countryside as far as the eye can see.

So considered was the creation of this property that much of the wood you’ll find about the place was salvaged during the restoration of Dartmouth Lower Ferry slipway. Stop and feel the banister as you climb the stairs. Gaze at the weathering in cupboard doors. Interwoven throughout are sumptuous furnishings - homely yet luxurious. From the double-width wine fridge to the far-reaching country views, you’ll be awash with happiness.

An L-shaped kitchen diner is the heart of the home and you can just imagine your troupe tumbling in from the stairwell or the living room. Hear the gaggle around the dining table as the day’s antics are recalled, glassed chinked and a sated hush descends.

The living room calls you to take in that view - the kind that floor to ceiling windows were designed for. When the TV doesn’t delight, perhaps a sing-song around the piano might - play us a tune… Up above, the master bedroom enjoys the views too and we doubt you’ll want to pull the blind, rather savor the stars.

There are nods to nature throughout, from the stain glass window to the artwork and the untrimmed framing of it too. A wander around your garden and the footpaths to the village and you’ll be sure to come across some of the local wildlife too.

About a mile from the centre of Rattery village, you really are in a peaceful spot. Wander in on a Tuesday for your pick of tasty basics from the village shop or any other time for a refreshing pub pint.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

There are four beautiful finished bedrooms. The master suite on the first floor enjoys glorious and wide views across neighbouring fields and valleys with the window making the most of the apex and full width of the room. Its king-size bed and en suite shower room complete the mastery. Another king-size bedroom and a twin room (that can be converted to a king) complete the first-floor accommodation where you’ll also find the family bathroom with separate shower and bath. The fourth bedroom (twin or king) is on the ground floor with its own en suite shower room.

This is the second time we have been here.Beautiful place and well equipped, stunning views and very helpful owners that live nextdoor, so handy for sightseeing, so many things to see. If you want a lovely roast try king William pub in Totnes, steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth then a cruise is well worth doing.

Past Customer,

Heron's Haunt is a wonderful holiday home! Fantastic space. Very well equipped. Comfortable. Amazing views. Quiet. Highly recommended. Thank you Jayne & Roy for being such considerate and welcoming hosts.

Miss L,

Lovely property in a peaceful location, nice touches on arrival with fresh milk and juice in the fridge and also the owners had made sure that the property was open for us due to awful weather on the day of arrival. Would highly recommend this property as there is tons of space for families and the amenities are first class.

Mr G,

We had a fantastic time at Heron's Haunt - a much needed break after the many months of lockdown. The property is beautiful - spacious, gorgeously decorated and so well equipped, it had everything we needed and more, it far exceeded our expectations. The highlight had to be that lovely view, particularly enjoyed from the very comfortable armchairs! Thank you Roy and Jayne for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be back!

Mrs K,

Beautiful comfortable home - Roy and Jayne were exceptically friendly and helpful.

Purser Family,

Jayne and Roy have created a wonderful ‘home from home’ with a very high end spacious property. They have thought of everything one could need and more, for a comfortable stay. The beds are super comfortable, with good quality bedding and the house is spotless. Kitchen is a pleasure to cook in and very stylish. Views are incredible and we would definitely recommend to friends. A wonderful stay.

R M,

We have just returned from a lovely week spent at Heron’s Haunt. The location is excellent and the accommodation fabulous. The house is very well equipped with top quality appliances and all the kitchen utensils etc that you could possibly need. We enjoyed many bbq evenings in the lovely garden enjoying the stunning views. The house was exceptionally clean and spacious and we felt at home right from the very first minute. The hosts (who live next door) were very welcoming and helpful. I cannot recommend this property highly enough - book now you won’t regret it! Steve B Sept 2020

Past Customer,

We all said WOW when we walked into Heron's Haunt. We have just come back from having a lovely holiday staying at the fantastic Heron's Haunt. The accommodation is by far the best we have ever stayed in. Four large double/king-size bedrooms, two with balconies, plenty of space and storage cupboards, 6 TVs. The large kitchen has everything you need, very large lounge and dining area. This is a modern building very tastefully decorated. Peaceful area and amazing views. We really liked Heron's Haunt and hope to go back in the near future.

Past Customer,

Herons Haunt was the perfect house for our family holiday, enabling us to spend some quality time together as a family, make some lovely memories and generally get away from it all. The facilities in the house are of a very high standard and hi-spec and the accommodation is very comfortable and versatile. The garden is south facing and we had an amazing BBQ evening sitting on the patio, looking out over the wonderful valley views. The stairgates, high chair and cot were a great help for our young grandson. The location is stunning although I did find the walk to the pub somewhat strenuous as there are some steep hills in Rattery but the younger fitter ones coped fine and even went out for some runs. The local pub ‘Church House Inn’ is great and we had a wonderful meal there. The location is great and within reasonable driving distance to Dartmoor and to the south Devon coast. Dartington and Totnes are both great for shopping too. Roy & Jayne were very friendly and extremely helpful. I would thoroughly recommend Herons Haunt.
