Lock yourselves away in this character apartment in the heart of Fowey and book the person you love an experience you’ll both treasure. The Salt Loft is packed to the rafters with luxury, and just outside is the bustling seaside town that you’ll never tire of.
A true coastal retreat for two
Stroll down the harbourside to this bijou retreat for two, where the sea air fills your lungs and love fills your hearts. Tucked away behind narrow streets full of independent shops, bakeries and traditional inns, when you close the door to the Salt Loft you’ll be in your own little world.
Lush houseplants bring contemporary glamour to the open plan living space, as they climb towards the skylights that flood the room with natural light. The vaulted ceiling is just the first of the period features you’ll notice – when you explore the room, you’ll discover artworks, curios and fantastic furniture in every nook and cranny. A nautical living room area is waiting for your voyage of relaxation, with a pair of stunning armchairs, statement lighting and colours in keeping with the boating regalia and modern styling.
The kitchen is exquisite, with special attention paid to the lighting here too. It won’t be difficult to set a romantic mood as you serve dinner on the stylish table with candles lit and soft music playing. The designer lighting in the lounge can bathe the room in red tones or dramatic shadows, as you choose, while in the daytime it’s a bright and airy space – just like the bedroom, which holds a sumptuously inviting bed dressed in White Company linens and decorated with a white-on-white aesthetic packed with class.
Rooftop views bring to mind the cosy feeling of an apartment in Venice, and you’re similarly close to the water here, with the harbourfront just a few yards away. Gaze towards the woodlands on the far side of the estuary or walk through the town to sample the very best in Fowey’s burgeoning restaurant scene, before sauntering back, perhaps a bottle of red in hand to uncork at home, to see out your perfect day together.
Bedroom and bathroom
The Salt Loft is a very special couples retreat, with one bedroom that has a king-size bed and a bathroom with a bath and shower.
If you haven't yet discovered Fowey, you've got a treat in store. Full of multicoloured cottages, perched on the hillsides leading down to the sea, this little fishing town has lots to tempt visitors.
There is an entrancing collection of unique local shops and boutiques, along with harbourside cafes, pubs which will give you a hearty welcome and a good atmosphere, and restaurants offering tempting local produce. If you want a unique insight into the local species in these waters, you could visit Fowey Aquarium, whose residents include specimens brought in by local fishermen.
If you're a fan of Daphne du Maurier, you may want to visit the Literary Centre, which gives information and exhibits about the author and her life and work. There is also the Fowey Festival of Words and Music, held in May, in which du Maurier, and many other authors, artists and musicians, are celebrated. Another great spectacle is the Fowey Royal Regatta, held in August.
Fowey lies within one of the many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Cornwall, and the backdrop of the surrounding countryside, with its tidal creeks, rolling fields and rugged cliffs, will make you want to return here again and again.
