Where grandeur and design meet. Bring family or friends together in this towering and abundant space. The glory of a Suffolk coastal break begins here.

Thorpeness thriller

Popular filming spot or thrilling holiday destination? Thorpeness and its surrounding coastal villages prove a popular choice for location recces and film producers as much as with holidaymakers. You’ll soon see why when your eyes land on Glencairn House, part of Ogilvie Hall in the heart of this historic town.

Spreading four bedrooms and vast living spaces over four floors, leave your bags at the door and explore first. The double height sitting room is a striking space that has been beautifully furnished will dapples of grey and blue. It leads to a formal dining space for those celebratory suppers or an evening of devouring the very best of your haul from the town’s independent shops. The mezzanine above leads to one of five bedrooms. On the lower ground floor is the impressive and light kitchen diner is a wonderful social space for content chefs or whizzing up pre-dinner cocktails. Bright with skylight and on-trend glass lanterns, why not enjoy dinner here to keep the conversation and laughter flowing.

Skip, hop, jump or amble from the door and you’ll find pubs and shops within a minute. Four more and you’re at the beach or walk along 20 minutes to reach Aldeburgh. With two private parking spaces, leave the keys at the house and explore on foot. The Meare is now a Peter Pan exhibition in a nod to Thorpeness visitor JM Barrie. There is great golf and tennis here too.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

There are bedrooms on all four floors. The lower ground floor houses a super stylish double bedroom and ensuite with bath that can be a twin room upon request. The ground floor presents a gorgeous double bedroom with walk-in shower en suite. The mezzanine floor has a cosy double while the second floor offers a further double bedroom with en suite shower room and a small double (suitable for one guest), plus an additional shower room.
