After a long drive, what could be more welcoming than the sight of this magnificent barn, light streaming from the windows and smoke curling gently from the chimney? It’s the ideal spot for a week or two of utterly indulgent relaxation.

Space to unwind

The living space of Rookery Barn is a sight to behold. Light floods into the eight-metre-tall windows on the eastern aspect, which stretch from the ground to the ceiling above the mezzanine. Spend happy afternoons with a pot of tea, curled up on the stylish mid-century sofas that surround the large wood burner, or read on the cosy mezzanine under the grand vaulted ceiling, and wave down to the kitchen for a refill of your glass of wine.

In the mornings, the expansive patio is the place to be. Your companions will all be waiting at the table, sunning themselves in the warmth of the new day, as you bring out a tray of croissants and a pot of fresh coffee. The gentle scent of lavender carries on the fresh breeze from the raised beds, and birds sing out in dawn chorus from the three acres of private paddock and woodland in which the barn stands. It’s nothing short of heavenly.

Take time to explore when you first arrive, and you’ll discover quirky features like the shuttered window from the master bedroom (perfect for letting in the morning light) or the cottage door adorned with a hand-carved pair of rooks, in homage to the barn’s name. Contemporary touches, like the uber-modern kitchen, never appear out of place with the property’s heritage. Careful interior design offers luxurious living throughout.

Thoughtful touches are evident from the significant design decisions, like the sparing use of complimenting colours on the exterior between the old parts of the building and the new (grey timber cladding and brown slate tiles on the barn, brown brick and grey roof on the modern wing), to the smallest details, such as the soft, quality linens in the bedrooms.

Bathrooms and bedrooms

There are five bedrooms and six bathrooms at Rookery Barn. All five bedrooms have king-size beds and en suites with showers. One of the en suites also has a contemporary freestanding bath.

We had a four night stay at rookery barn the place is amazing so modern and the views were amazing..would definitely recommend to anyone

Miss B,

This is the second time we have stayed at Rookery Barn and we were not disappointed again . The location is excellent , layout really suitable for the whole family including our disabled daughter and the standard of the equipment is far better than one would expect in a holiday cottage .There is no doubt the best thing was the hot tub Great to relax in an evening with a drink in the plastic glasses !
