Description

Cherish the past. Dotted around this 17th century cottage are touches of brilliance and dedicated restoration that will leave you spellbound. Truly unique, truly exceptional. Luxury, magnified through the lens of history.

History awaits

This is a restoration like no other, carried out with love and an attention to detail that is truly above and beyond. The owners have researched and restored period paint colours, furnishings and fabrics to reawaken the cottage’s past, without clutter, and with an added dose of luxury.

You’ll be charmed by the traditional Salt Box carved into the alcove recess, the beautifully restored period display cabinet, beamed ceilings and a handcrafted monks bench. You’ll feel at ease with the capacious scale of the rooms, the light and airy feeling somehow weaving through this ancient cottage.

You’ll enter through the lower ground floor and find a sitting room with a choice of aged leather and classic linen sofas, stone floors, wooden beams and a wonderful wood burner hinting at cosy evenings in, and the classic handcrafted monks bench. The magnificent kitchen with gas range cooker is complemented with a butler’s sink and another monks bench.

Little touches of history - a barometer, a pipe rack there, give nods to the building’s past and you’ll soon be imagining who lived here in years gone by. Come the festive season, the sitting room is beautifully bedecked with a Christmas tree bringing seasonal cheer for celebrating guests.

Setting the scene for Whitby’s historic tales, step out for a short wander to explore the town and harbour. Cast your net further and dive into the sheltered moorlands of the Esk Valley, the astonishing sea of purple heather in the North York Moors, or the dramatic towering cliffs and sheltered coves of the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast. Know that a roaring log fire and a cosy sofa and armchairs await at your home away from home.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Upstairs, the historic yet understated theme continues and you’ll find two grand bedrooms with luxurious linen dressing very comfortable beds. There are two high quality bathrooms complete with fluffy towels too.

Previous Customer,

Lovely, comfy, cosy cottage. Location excellent for exploring Whitby and surrounding areas

Mrs R,

This cottage felt so special. It's been lovingly restored to It's current condition. So beautiful and steeper in history and character. We were lucky enough to be staying over New Year and the place was decorated so beautifully. Picture perfect. Felt like we were in the movie 'The Holiday'. It's a wonderful gem of a place to stay. Amazing welcome pack from the owners of wine and cheese and cake, we were honestly blown away. Location amazing. Just had such a memorable time. Sitting in front of the fire with wine and cheese. Holiday heaven. Perfect wee place. Would 100% recommend and return.

Mrs H,

We completely loved this gorgeous little cottage! So much so .... we've already booked it again for next year!

Miss B,

This is the second time we have stayed in the property, both occasions were very enjoyable. The property is beautiful and situated in a fab location. We had a slight issue with the shower, on contacting the owner it was rectified immediately and we were given a complimentary bottle of wine. We will definately book Bagdale Cottage again.

Miss S,

Beautiful cottage extremely clean and tidy. Location is very central and please expect street noise accordingly.

Mrs C,

Thank you for the lovely cottage & relaxing stay! We've had a fabulous time!

Past Customer,

Such a lovely cottage, well equipped and fantastic Christmas tree so cosy. Hopefully will return soon

Past Customer,

We have had the most enjoyable stay here in this cottage.

Past Customer,

Lovely cottage in a really good location. We had a great time in Whitby. Thank you

Past Customer,

THE COTTAGE IS FABULOUS. THE LOCATION IS UNFORTUNATE, SET BELOW A BUSY ROAD AND ONLY SIX FEET AWAY. ALSO IMMEDIATELY BEHIND A BUSY /NOISY PUB. MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT PARKING IS A NIGHTMARE !!

Mr Steve S,

Bagdale Cottage is an ideal property for a holiday. It has everything you need and the location is ideal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Mrs Linda B,

This property suited our needs perfectly as we were able to use this as a central base to see all the areas we needed in and around North Yorkshire.

Previous Customer,

This was our second visit to Bagdale cottage. We’ve also spent time at other properties over the years booked via Ingrid Flute. Have always been very pleased with places we’ve stayed at. One thing I’d suggest is with properties like Bagdale that have a wood burner, an option to pay for an added extra to have wood included. We got caught out as the COOP sold out and then started stocking BBQ Charcoal. Just suggesting during winter months.

Mrs Leigh C,

We were thoroughly delighted with our stay in Whitby and Bagdale Cottage. Thank you

Mrs Isobel G,
