Description
Cherish the past. Dotted around this 17th century cottage are touches of brilliance and dedicated restoration that will leave you spellbound. Truly unique, truly exceptional. Luxury, magnified through the lens of history.
History awaits
This is a restoration like no other, carried out with love and an attention to detail that is truly above and beyond. The owners have researched and restored period paint colours, furnishings and fabrics to reawaken the cottage’s past, without clutter, and with an added dose of luxury.
You’ll be charmed by the traditional Salt Box carved into the alcove recess, the beautifully restored period display cabinet, beamed ceilings and a handcrafted monks bench. You’ll feel at ease with the capacious scale of the rooms, the light and airy feeling somehow weaving through this ancient cottage.
You’ll enter through the lower ground floor and find a sitting room with a choice of aged leather and classic linen sofas, stone floors, wooden beams and a wonderful wood burner hinting at cosy evenings in, and the classic handcrafted monks bench. The magnificent kitchen with gas range cooker is complemented with a butler’s sink and another monks bench.
Little touches of history - a barometer, a pipe rack there, give nods to the building’s past and you’ll soon be imagining who lived here in years gone by. Come the festive season, the sitting room is beautifully bedecked with a Christmas tree bringing seasonal cheer for celebrating guests.
Setting the scene for Whitby’s historic tales, step out for a short wander to explore the town and harbour. Cast your net further and dive into the sheltered moorlands of the Esk Valley, the astonishing sea of purple heather in the North York Moors, or the dramatic towering cliffs and sheltered coves of the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast. Know that a roaring log fire and a cosy sofa and armchairs await at your home away from home.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
Upstairs, the historic yet understated theme continues and you’ll find two grand bedrooms with luxurious linen dressing very comfortable beds. There are two high quality bathrooms complete with fluffy towels too.
