Description

The lifestyle at the Old Chapel is a cut above the ordinary. Indulge your longing for luxury in a converted space that perfectly captures the innovative spirit of nearby Whitby, with a dash of the relaxed rural. Come and discover the exquisite elegance for yourself.

A haven of relaxation

The Old Chapel was once the centre of the village community. Today, it’s a shining example of what is possible when contemporary design meets period elegance. Perch on the church pew in the entrance to unlace your boots, then step up to the kitchen which is a vision of sophistication and style. Original feature doors, with their arched profiles, remain in place, modern fixtures are there for your every need and a wood burner brings to mind a traditional country kitchen warmth, with none of the fussiness. Don’t forget to pop into the butchers at the end of the road for some local fare to put the kitchen through its paces.

Upstairs in the lounge, there’s space for all eight of you to sink into the richly tanned leather armchairs and sofas, a glass of red in hand and conversation flowing into the night. The log burner crackles, the chandelier casts a soft, dappled light and the ambience is pure magic. Someone tickles the ivories on the original church organ, another peruses the carousel of complimentary chocolates on the repurposed altar table.

In keeping with the standard of luxury you’ll have already become accustomed to by this point, there’s a gaming console in the snug and a reading area you’ll not be able to tear yourself away from. But the best is yet to come.

The master bedroom is nothing short of magnificent, with its floating staircase and glass panelling, beautiful arched chapel windows, emperor (yes, emperor) size bed and open en suite giving this room a palatial feel.

A secret spa is also waiting to be found, with underfloor heating beneath travertine tiles the picture of lavishness as you enter. Book a spa experience for your stay and you won’t regret it. There’s also a sauna, rain shower and jacuzzi to leave you feeling like you’re walking on clouds.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

The Old Chapel is a singularly exquisite home that has space for eight, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has an emperor size bed and en-suite shower, the second bedroom has a king-size bed and in the remaining two bedrooms you can choose between super-king or twin singles thanks to zip and link beds. The spa has a rainfall shower.

Reviews

The Old Chapel was a fantastic property to stay in for a half term break with the family and grandparents! The property was spotlessly clean, and each bedroom was super comfy! The kitchen and living spaces meant there was plenty of room for everyone to relax and read or watch TV! The spa was the added bonus, and afforded some lovely relaxation after each day of exploring the local area.

Miss P,

Fabulous property well equipped clean and very quirky we had a blast on my sisters 70th birthday also nice walk into Whitby and good taxi service if needed little pub a very short walk away do lovely food we will be back soon

Mrs S,

Beautiful property very cozy

Mrs W,

Great property, god location with easy 30 min walk to Whitby. Good facilities and spotlessly clean on arrival. Would recommend

Past Customer,

This is a beautiful property that has been prepared to a high standard. It's a great place for a holiday for a family or a group of friends.

Past Customer,

We had a person with limited mobility and although the property had a GF bedroom and WC they were only accessed between the 2 by several stairs up to the sitting room, and a walk across the sitting room.then down a few stairs. This could be better stated in the accessibility information .A toilet or even better, a shower room in the snug area adjacent to the GF bedroom would be perfect. Otherwise great quirky property.

Mr M L,

Fantastic cottage in a great location with lovely walks into Whitby, 2 great car parking spots with 2 more if you dare to drive through the narrow gate. The photos don’t do the chapel justice it’s amazing, could just do with a couple of hair dryers and spare toilet rolls - would definitely recommend

miss R A,

We were unable to use the jacuzzi as it was flooding the spa room, which was a big disappointment and something we were looking forward to using. We had to use the lovely towels to mop up all the water. We called maintenance and we told someone would come and resolve it but no one came. Everything else was beautiful, rooms were gorgeous and decor was lovely. The kitchen was abit disjointed from the other main living area and as the one doing all the cooking I was away from everyone else in tha party alot. We understand that this was due to the configuration of such an old building. There were little touches for my brothers 60th and the welcome basket and sweets were super. We loved the fact features were kept from the time it was a Chapel. We enjoyed our stay and the locality and would definitely book again and hopefully be able to relax in the jacuzzi.
