Description
Just because you’re leaving the city behind doesn’t mean missing out on 21st-century living. At this character cottage in the Yorkshire Dales, the spaces have a warm, organic feel thanks to bold use of colour and quirky furniture choices that blend into a cohesive whole.
Proudly modern
Set in the quintessential Dales village of Carlton, South View Cottage has been remodelled throughout to become a holiday home that’ll bathe you in luxury from the moment you walk through the door. Enter into the kitchen diner, where natural wood and gunmetal grey create an aspirational space in which to feed your companions. The dining table and benches have a touch of industrial style that’s utterly on-trend, under one of the many artworks in this house. The snug downstairs surrounds a period fireplace on which the room’s greys and blacks are picked out in the stylish furniture and set off against the bottle green paintwork.
A second lounge provides even more space to spread out on the corner sofa with a good book under the exposed timber beams that crisscross the ceiling, and distinctive paddle stairs lead you to the upstairs, where cosy bedrooms in clean, light colours and that same idiosyncratic design aesthetic inspired the furniture. Pick of the rooms is the Stable Wing, where the vaulted ceiling’s beams tower over a sumptuous bed with dual aspect windows taking in the views on either side of the house.
The rural village is ripe for exploration, and there is a pub just down the road where you can get the best local tips on hidden treasures to discover during your stay. Legend has it there’s a waterfall or two, disused quarries and even traces of ancient settlements. Bolton Castle is within striking distance for a leisurely day out.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
South View Cottage is an utterly modern home with fabulous views and space for eight, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two bedrooms have king-sized sleigh beds, the third bedroom is a double and the fourth has twin beds. The main bathroom has a bath and rainfall shower, and there is a second shower room on the ground floor.
