Described by some as a “foodie village,” Porthleven has come to see the opening of many fantastic eateries. With choices surprisingly (for a village of this size) ranging in the dozens, it can be hard to know where to choose. Here we explore some of the top accolade-winning eateries in Porthleven for when you’re on your retreats in Cornwall.

1. SeaDrift Kitchen Café (local cuisine)

Currently ranked number one on TripAdvisor.co.uk, and the recipient of their Certificate of Excellence for 2014, this bright restaurant offers a delicious selection of homemade local food in contemporary and stylish surroundings. Located on Fore Street, the kitchen-café also has many specials available on baked goods, seafood and more.

2. Kota Restaurant (local and international)

This restaurant has quickly become one of the most renowned restaurants in the southwest of England. Serving up a splendid selection of local seafood, Pacific-style dishes and more, Kota has already received two Rosettes from the AA. It is also one of only five restaurants in all of Cornwall to have been awarded a Bib Gourmand but the 2014 Michelin Guide.

3. The Square At Porthleven (bistro)

Open from 11am to 9pm from Monday to Saturday, this fine local bistro is the sister restaurant to the award-winning The Victoria Inn in Perranuthnoe. Living by its ethos, “local is best,” the restaurant gives lunch and dinner service (including kids’ menu). Sample menus are available at their website, but due to them taking on a lot of local and seasonal ingredients, the menu can actually change regularly, which means every time brings new, fresh offerings.

4. The Top Chippy (fish and chips)

Not everyone will always be up for fine restaurant dining. Sometimes, what you really want in the winter is good-old fish and chips. The Top Chippy (formerly known as The Chip Inn), is an award-winning local chippy offering traditional cod, haddock and plaice, but also sausages, puddings, pies and everything else you might want from such a place. Be advised, winter opening hours are limited to 12 noon to 1.30pm, and then 4.30pm to 8.30pm. You’ll find The Top Chippy on Fore Street.

5. Nauti But Ice (breakfast/brunch, evening meals, tea/coffee/cakes)

A versatile local eatery offering a range of snacks and meals with breathtaking views over the harbour. As its clever name suggests, it’s also a place to treat yourself to some local “naughtier” offerings, including cakes and ice cream. It also has highly recommended vegetarian options, and is family friendly.
