Derbyshire

With its strong heritage of former spa towns, industrial history and rural communities, Derbyshire is rich with places to visit and picturesque towns and villages amidst a beautiful countryside setting. Home also to the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire is the ideal spot for a walking holiday, or a relaxing remote break spent unwinding while taking in stunning vistas. Chatsworth House is a magnet for visitors with its grand buildings and landscape shaped by Capability Brown, a view which has remained unchanged over the many years. Within Chatsworth park are small villages with interesting histories of their own, including Edensor ‘Enza’, a village known for its tapestry of architectural styles. A drive up Winnat’s Pass is a must- drive along the steep and narrow road which cuts through the middle of the green mountain, the rock faces just an arm's length away. Inside the hills here are Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff cavern, the only places where the Blue John gemstone, a silvery purple mineral, is found. Stalactites can also be found here and the caverns are open to the public. For the best panoramic views head to Bretton, stand outside The Barrell Inn and let the dales unfold before you. Foolow is a lesser known picturesque village home to some pretty 17th and 18th century cottages, with a small circular duck pond at its centre, where you can spot the duck crossing just outside the Bull’s Head Inn.  Scroll through our luxury collection of Derbyshire cottages and get ready...
