Porthleven is renowned for its visual splendor due to its status as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With a double harbor split by a granite pier there are plenty of activities for budding nature lovers, surfers or those in need of pure relaxation.

The Porthleven Beach

The beach in Porthleven is a prized area for British surfers. It is one of the few bays to have a reef break which ensures that the waves are more consistent and powerful- the waves have been noted to reach around 15 feet in height during summer (so recommended for experienced surfers only!). Porthleven Beach is also a popular place for young families with plenty of rock pooling spots sheltered by the surrounding cliffs. At low tide, take the opportunity to walk the three mile beach which stretches from Loe Bar to Gunwalloe Fishing Cove. Furthermore, you can also walk along the coastal path to venture out of the village- the perfect opportunity for aspiring photographers!

The Porthleven Harbour

The working fishing harbour is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. The local cafes and restaurants source their fresh fish from the local fisherman, so whether you want to take up a spot of fishing yourself, or venture to the local eateries, you will be supporting the local trade. The Porthleven Harbour also provides kayaking facilities as well as offering boat trips to further explore the southerly harbour.

Porthleven Restaurants

Whether you want to enjoy a famed Cornish pasty on the beach or dine out at one of the many Porthleven eateries, you won’t be disappointed with the produce! Visit the Kota Restaurant which is fast becoming one of the most renowned restaurants in Cornwall with accolades awarded by the Good Food Guide, the Michelin Guide, The Times and The Telegraph. Amelies at the Smokehouse is also very popular due its harbourside location and evening live music. Nauti But Ice is another extremely busy eatery- especially with young children due to their wide range of ice creams, cakes and other glorious sweet treats!

Porthleven truly is a top rated holiday destination catering for young families, experienced surfers and those desiring a quiet, quintessential English holiday. It is also easily accessible due to it being just a short drive away from Penzance train station- you really are tucked away in the beautiful, most southerly working port of Cornwall!
