Description

Pearson's But and Ben is an utterly wonderful holiday retreat, nestled in a picturesque valley on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It has been interior designed with superb attention to detail in its furnishings, decor, colours and textures - it just oozes quality throughout its spacious accommodation. With two en suite king size bedrooms, the property is ideal for two couples holidaying together but also welcomes families.

Surrounded by lovely countryside with fantastic views down the valley to the hills beyond, “Pearson’s” is converted from a former farm building, attached to but totally private from the adjacent farmhouse. At lambing time, there will be sheep and lambs in the barns to the rear. The cottage has a lovely rural setting yet the charming town of Wirksworth is just five minutes' drive away with its heritage trail and railway, range of local shops, pubs, restaurants and even a small cinema. The High Peak Trail, which is great for walkers and cyclists, passes close by and Carsington Water with its water sports, cycle trails and birdwatching is just over the hill.

There are also lots of other Peak District attractions in the surrounding hills. Matlock Bath with its cable cars and riverside prom is not to be missed. Magnificent Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are just up the Derwent Valley. Venture beyond famous Bakewell and you are in the real Peaks with sparkling rivers, picturesque villages, incredible views from the grit stone edges and country pubs galore.

Previous Customer,

The cottage was very clean and cozy. We have enjoyed our stay, the owner was very supportive and cooperative and timely responding.

Mr Fahad Z,

The property has everything you could want. Well located in a quiet area (despite the local quarries) but only a 10 minute drive from Wirksworth which has most of the amenities you could want. The cottage has been fully renovated to a very high standard and everything you could need is provided. The contact for the cottage (Karen) could not have been more helpful after we experienced a direct lightning strike during our stay!

Mr H,

We sought a high grade cottage, hoped it would be in a lovely area and accessible to exploring the east Peaks area, expected it to be very clean, comfortable and with all mod cons... and we were delighted it was all of these!

Ms Louise J,

The cottage was very clean and cozy. We have enjoyed our stay, the owner was very supportive and cooperative and timely responding.

Mr Fahad Z,

Location

WIRKSWORTH

The historical small town of Wirksworth with its imposing stone buildings, maze of alleyways and narrow streets lies on the southern edge of the Peak District.

The town was founded on the lead mining industry, dating back to at least Roman times, but the Industrial Revolution was the basis for the town’s prosperity.  Sir Richard Arkwright built Haarlem Mill in the town and this is considered to be the mill in George Eliot’s The Mill on the Floss.

Visitors to Wirksworth will be spoilt for choice for things to do.  The spectacular StarDisc – a modern stone circle star chart – is situated high above the town and illuminates the constellations.  A must-see on a clear night.  The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, based in Wirksworth, is Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway running to Duffield through a lovely, unspoilt valley and the Wirksworth Heritage Centre tells the story of Wirksworth and its people.

The picturesque market towns of Matlock and Bakewell are within easy reach and it’s also just a short drive to magnificent Chatsworth House or the more homely Haddon Hall.

Local Pubs: Miners Arms, Carsington.  Hope and Anchor, Wirksworth
