A picture-perfect, restored thatched cottage overlooking a private lake and woodlands. Formerly gamekeeper’s lodgings, the cottage has been beautifully renovated with a modern, contemporary edge and is equipped to a high standard. There are views over the lake from the sitting room, dining room and two of the bedrooms, so you can laze in bed in the mornings and watch nature unfold in front of you. The owners have also set aside some marked trails in the woods to explore and there is access to an indoor swimming pool too, making this a fabulous holiday retreat. If you can bear to tear yourselves away, the cottage is close to The Broads network, the cultural city of Norwich and a short drive to the wide, open sandy beaches of the east coast. The lush countryside in and around Hemblington is a joy to discover, with walks from the doorstep and in nearby Burlingham Woods. The area is also good cycling country and the RSPB nature reserve at Strumpshaw Fen is close at hand for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike. The Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden Trust at South Walsham makes for a lovely day out and The Broads network is on the doorstep for river trips, canoeing, kayaking and nature trails. Whilst here jump on the Bure Valley railway for a steam train journey that will take you from Wroxham to the lovely Georgian market town of Aylsham. On your way to discover the cultural delights of Norwich, just 8.5 miles away, why not drop in to sample some award winning wine at the Winbirri Vineyards at Surlingham. Norwich itself is a great city to explore with a castle, two cathedrals, the Norfolk Regimental Museum, historic riverside pubs, great restaurants and café culture and a little retail therapy is always on the cards here too! The east coast beaches are within easy reach and Winterton-on-Sea allows dogs on the beach year round if you are holidaying with your four-legged friends. There is plenty to do in the area and one visit will probably turn in to the first of many more.
What a little gem! Anoasis of calm and beauty in the Norfolk countryside. Immaculate cottage with a well equipped kitchen. Very helpful owners on site for any questions or concerns. We really appreciated walking around the lake and all the wildlife, fab swimming pool, cosy log burners, modern kitchen and very high standard of cleanliness.
An excellent house for a truly relaxing holiday. The setting is prefect and the private lake and woodland make this a must stay location. We will be back.
We have fallen in love with this little gem of a place. Even with three small children we have all relaxed.this is a very special place. The cottage makes you relax. The quality of the furnishings and decor are second to none. What a fabulous place. Jane Read and family.
We have had a fabulous week enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the idyllic location of Keeper’s Cottage. The hosts very much want you to enjoy a piece of their world. Listening to the trees, watching the ducks ad all sorts of wildlife has been a wonderful week of discovery. Also the history and all the work involved with the cottages and lodge is fascinating. Keeper’s Cottage is a beautiful place to stay.
A lovely property in an idyllic location. The owners made us most welcome. Would recommend this property to anyone wishing to have a peaceful, relaxing holiday.
The cottage is absolutely gorgeous. It is everything that we could have hoped for. Beautiful outlook over the lake ,just idyllic. Everything inside is so clean, it has been a pleasure to stay and recharge our batteries. Oh and the showers are amazing.
Gorgeous cottage in a fantastic setting
Superb property in a truely idillic setting. The owner had prepared the house extremely well with everything you could possibly need, including a child stairgate and delicious lemon drizzle cake. We will definitely be coming back.
