A picture-perfect, restored thatched cottage overlooking a private lake and woodlands. Formerly gamekeeper’s lodgings, the cottage has been beautifully renovated with a modern, contemporary edge and is equipped to a high standard. There are views over the lake from the sitting room, dining room and two of the bedrooms, so you can laze in bed in the mornings and watch nature unfold in front of you. The owners have also set aside some marked trails in the woods to explore and there is access to an indoor swimming pool too, making this a fabulous holiday retreat. If you can bear to tear yourselves away, the cottage is close to The Broads network, the cultural city of Norwich and a short drive to the wide, open sandy beaches of the east coast. The lush countryside in and around Hemblington is a joy to discover, with walks from the doorstep and in nearby Burlingham Woods. The area is also good cycling country and the RSPB nature reserve at Strumpshaw Fen is close at hand for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike. The Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden Trust at South Walsham makes for a lovely day out and The Broads network is on the doorstep for river trips, canoeing, kayaking and nature trails. Whilst here jump on the Bure Valley railway for a steam train journey that will take you from Wroxham to the lovely Georgian market town of Aylsham. On your way to discover the cultural delights of Norwich, just 8.5 miles away, why not drop in to sample some award winning wine at the Winbirri Vineyards at Surlingham. Norwich itself is a great city to explore with a castle, two cathedrals, the Norfolk Regimental Museum, historic riverside pubs, great restaurants and café culture and a little retail therapy is always on the cards here too! The east coast beaches are within easy reach and Winterton-on-Sea allows dogs on the beach year round if you are holidaying with your four-legged friends. There is plenty to do in the area and one visit will probably turn in to the first of many more.
The cottage is absolutely gorgeous. It is everything that we could have hoped for. Beautiful outlook over the lake ,just idyllic. Everything inside is so clean, it has been a pleasure to stay and recharge our batteries. Oh and the showers are amazing.
Gorgeous cottage in a fantastic setting
Superb property in a truely idillic setting. The owner had prepared the house extremely well with everything you could possibly need, including a child stairgate and delicious lemon drizzle cake. We will definitely be coming back.
We had a lovely time and enjoyed every minute of our holiday. Children loved the pool (we all did!). Saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed waking up to a lake view, seeing deer in the garden with heron's flying over the lake every morning. Cottage fully equipped and lovely and clean. Jane and Andrew were very friendly and helpful. Five Stars!! Thanks for a great holiday.
Thank you for a wonderful week awat, the cottage is is a wonderful location, we enjoyed watching wildlife enormously. The cottage is well equipped and clean and felt 'Covid-safe' on our arrival. We visited several National Trust properties which we enjoyed and would recommend Overstrand and Winterton if you have a dog with you, Lottie enjoyed it! Thank you to Jane for a super-prompt response when we had a problem with the water. We will be returning next year!
A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. walking inthe woods, swimming in the pool and enjoying the local area. Lots of wildlife to see and we enjoyed seeing 'our regulars' in the garden, especially the Mother Coot and her chicks. Alex and Holly loved seeing the rabbits, squirrels but especially the deer. Rob, Siobhan, Alex and Holly
We arrived in the dark in the middle of a howling gale, trees down everywhere and the power was off, it felt a bit like a rather spooky movie! Found the house due to having to do a detour drive due to blocked roads and found candles lit around the house and the woodburner glowing. Even better the kettle was burning on top of th ebirer, we couldn't have been made more welcome. When the ights came on again we were able to fully appreciate the beautiful house. When we awoke the next morning we could see the beautiful setting that was to be ours for the week. A week which had gone all too quickly we feel so rested, thank you for a lovely break. Tips: Fairhaven Gadens definitely worth a visit, walks from Ludham bridge were lovely, we went to St. Benet's Abbey. 'Fishermans Retrun' Pub at Winterton, very friendly and welcomes dogs, good vegetarian menu. Horsey Gap beach, lots of seals there at the moment.
