Description

In an area dating back to the Norman conquest, The Old Cart Lodge in the Norfolk Broads is ideally situated for families and friends wanting to explore historic sights and natural beauty, all within easy reach of the vibrant city of Norwich.

Peaceful simplicity

Simplicity and comfort are the rules at this sympathetically refurbished self-catering barn. Boasting an elegant open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting area, and framed with a feature brick wall, beamed cathedral ceiling, and bi-fold windows out to the patio and hot tub, The Old Cart Lodge combines a tasteful mix of traditional charm and modern ease. Further benefiting from plush sofas in the sitting area, and delightfully decorated little nooks and crannies throughout the house, this luxury self-catering getaway accentuates its character through an unpretentious sense of style.

Enjoy cups of coffee and easy mornings at the rustic dining room table. After a day exploring the area on foot or by bicycle, the fully-equipped kitchen is a great place to put together a light snack or even cook a hearty meal for some al fresco dining on the patio. Then, when the stars are out and the children are in bed, pour yourself a nice glass of wine and slip into the hot tub for a romantic wind-down to your day.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Past the open-plan area of The Old Cart Lodge, the king-size master suite enjoys a high, beamed ceiling, bright views, a TV, and an en-suite shower room with WC. Next, there is a super king-size zip-and-link room (can be made up as a twin on request) for the children or other guests, with more bright views, a TV, and a comfortable rattan chair for much-needed solitude and peaceful reading in the mornings. In addition to the en-suite shower room in the master suite, guests have access to a family bathroom with WC.

Practicalities

We welcome two well-behaved dogs, treats/blankets available. Bathrobes are provided. Mobile phone reception is variable.  No EV charging permitted.

Reviews

The Old Cart Lodge exceeded our expectations: The house is well speced, very comfortable with good quality fittings etc. Nice outside space. Jenny the owner was welcoming and friendly. It was a perfect cottage and we will return at some point. We lovely the location with easy access to excellent walks over the fens without having to get in car. My daughters small dog loved the secure outside space - so did we!!

Mr H,

A beautiful cart lodge in a great location, would highly recommend

Miss S,

Great place to stay with everything we needed. Jenny provided all the information we required as well as a lemon drizzle cake. Hoping to return.

Mrs T,

Absolutely stunning property ; beautiful hideaway from busy life. The hosts Jenny & Lloyd were delightful! Home made lemon drizzle delightful ; all the things we needed and more ! Well thought out and designed property

Mrs M,

We loved our stay at the Old Cart Lodge. The accommodation is gorgeous inside and out and suited our family or two adults, two teens and our dog perfectly. The outdoor space was particular important for our dog and was completely secure for him to safely roam around. Our stay was comfortable and cosy, the welcome treats for both us and our dog were a lovely touch and we all enjoyed the hot tub too. Well situated to the coast, getting the park and ride into Norwich and we would highly recommend a walk at Whitlingham Country Park, the cafe there is lovely too! A great stay and we would definately like to book a return visit at some point too. Communication with the owner was great and she was happy to answer any questions we had.

Mrs G,

Old Cart Lodge was absolutely fantastic, loved by every member of our family, especially our Labrador! The property is perfect - tidy and well maintained throughout, and by far the best dog-friendly property we have stayed in. The village is great with a host of lovely walks on the doorstep and only 30/45 mins drive from countless beaches, most of which are dog friendly. All in all I could not fault the accommodation, location and value for money. Highly recommend to anyone.

Mr G,

Lovely accommodation with everything you could want in a peaceful area.

Mr E,

Absolutely beautiful. We had a fantastic stay. Loved the cottage and the hot tub. Everything was perfect. Lovely surrounding area and not too far from other places to visit. Host was lovely. Would highly recommend.

Mrs S,

Well if this was a tv show and Four in a Bed then we would give, 10/10 for hosts, 10/10 for how were the facilities, 10/10 for cleanliness etc.. Superb cottage and great location. Would we stay again at Old Cart Lodge - Yes we would - definitely !!!!

Mr T,

Extremely nice cottage and well equipped

Mr M,

Lovely place, very comfortable and would recommend to family and friends.

Miss S,

Lovely cottage and courtyard garden, great location for exploring Norfolk, lush lemon drizzle cake

Mrs B,

Very good accommodation, well equipped and luxury feeling. Owners very attentive and caring.

Mrs K,

The Old Cart lodge is very beautifully decorated with lovely touches and attention to detail, making it a real home from home. The property is cosy and relaxing, yet bright and airy making it perfect for summer or winter stays. Our break was perfect and we cannot recommend it enough.

Miss D,

Good property with good comms with owner

Mr M,

We stayed for three nights and had a wonderful time. The cabin was beautiful, and so spacious - even bigger and better than it looks from the photos. It had everything we needed for our stay. Paying more for the hot tub was a bonus and well worth it. It was a great size and we went in it each night under the fairy lights. We would love to come back in the summer. Communication from the host was great, and check in and check out was an easy process. I would highly recommend and we are already looking to come back.
