Description
Dating back to the mid-18th century, this traditional Norfolk brick and flint barn conversion has been stunningly revamped without qualms about its modern identity. Offering countryside luxury self-catering just a few miles inland from the coast, Blue Tile Farm Barn has the means, style, and confidence to entertain large families and groups of friends.
Ushering in light and style
Even on the first approach, Blue Tile Farm Barn greets you with its dazzlingly stylish contradiction: a ground-to-roof glass entrance flanked on either side by traditional brick and flint walls, farm fields to the horizon in the background. To make this statement even bolder, you can see these farm fields right through the house, through the matching ground-to-ceiling windows on the other side of the sitting room. The stylistic effect is immediate and hugely successful – a bright and inviting interior awash with natural light, featuring sleek, modern fixtures and design, a mezzanine sitting area under vaulted ceilings, and contemporary art that echoes the vivid, iris blue wall around the feature wood burner.
Ironically, a quick trip into the village, or a day spent at the beach, just a short drive north, may feel more like a step back in time than a whole week in this barn. There are footpaths and cycling lanes in the area, and monastic ruins in the nearby village of Binham. Back at the Barn, though, after a nice day out, the grown-ups can put a movie on for the kids on the 3.5-meter wide projection screen, pour themselves a nice drink, and throw together a little meal to later eat al fresco while they rehash the day. Having already weathered the test of time, you might want to think that the Barn’s new look is equivalent to teaching an old dog new tricks, but the Barn’s unequivocal elegance just proves that it has plenty of youth in it yet.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
Blue Tile Farm Barn has enough room to comfortably accommodate nine guests, and every room features its characteristic, contemporary elegance. Under a double-height, vaulted ceiling, the super-king size master suite benefits from an en-suite bathroom, complete with a double-ended bath, sound system, WC, and large shower cubicle. Next are a super-king size room and a twin room, both of which share the convenience of the family bathroom. Upstairs past the mezzanine is a child’s dream room, featuring two built-in, full-size cabin beds and paddle/hit and miss steps up to a third full-size single bed. Children will love the tunnel that runs behind the paddle steps linking the two lower beds.
Practicalities
We welcome two dogs but please also refer to our booking policy regarding pets. We can include six towelling robes, a travel cot and high chair. A starter pack of fuel for the wood burner is provided. The SONOS sound system plays throughout the main rooms. Mobile phone reception is good.
Special Note: Please be aware that there are some changes of the level throughout the property, and that the driveway is shared.
