Swathes of grandeur and more than a touch of class await you at Church Farm in Halesworth. One of Suffolk’s finest country houses blends period features with sumptuous modern finishes to present a stunning one-of-a-kind holiday home.

Country spectacle

Don’t be fooled by the whitewashed simplicity of Church Farm’s exterior. Behind every door is a decadence of plush design and chic rusticity. The impeccable blend of bare brick and ancient woodwork with the sumptuous and sinfully squishy comfort of the stunning furnishing choices is a triumph of interior design.

Believed to date back to the 16th century, perhaps even a little earlier, Halesworth history has unfolded in country houses like this one. Today’s version of the house continues to make a statement with its oversize accessories and kooky nods to the local brewing industry.

There are two sitting rooms to sink into during your stay. The first calls for cosy evenings in around the sizeable woodburner, a pack of cards and a choice of Kent’s finest English wines. The second, more formal of the two sitting rooms begs for the Sunday papers and a pot of tea or a pile of postcards to regale to friends your wondrous surroundings and the doorstep delights of the Suffolk Heritage coastline.

The kitchen and dining room are cleverly entwined but for yet more exposed beamwork. The stripped wood of the cabinets and the imposing copper lighting bring a drama to this most convivial space where plans for the day ahead or stories from last night will be sought.

Wander a little into the centre of Halesworth to sample the local brew in historic pubs. Or take a 15 -minute drive to seaside Southwold with its pretty beach huts, imposing pier and welcoming boutiques for a souvenir almost as unique as your holiday home.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

The five bedrooms are stately in their finish. Striking headboards, antique furniture, oversize lighting, sumptuous bedding, soft rugs and floor-skirting drapes greet you at bedtime. Each is individually styled and named, and two have en suite bathrooms. The first of two master bedrooms takes its influence from French rustic chic with decorative chandelier and French style bedstead and wardrobe. The second master, The Grand Room, draws you an ornate warmth with its carved blue-grey bed and tweed curtains while the real wow factor hides in the en suite with its standalone bath and subway tiles. The Ship Room does as it promises with its nod to boating life while The Garrett twists a cosy space in the eaves into an airy twin. Downstairs, The Old English Room brings a sense of old English country charm and can set as a king or a twin, as you choose.
