As you drive through that signature Sussex countryside you already know you’re on your way to somewhere special. And when you round the corner to your family getaway, it’s confirmed. This stunning conversion, combining traditional with modern and some great extra touches is all yours.

Set in the grounds of a working farm with lovely views of the gardens and countryside beyond, Gildridge House has all the right ingredients for a family holiday to remember. The original 17th century features – think inglenook fireplace, beamed ceilings, spiral staircase… sit perfectly alongside the modern additions. They include a kitchen fit for culinary kings, a covered pool (available May to end of October) sauna, games room and sunny conservatory.

Step into the Long Hall (8-metres long) with stunning original beams and where period furniture and fittings beckon invitingly by the open fire. Flow through into your bar, handily placed next to the dining area with room aplenty for all 12 of you. Take a peek at the gorgeous modern kitchen, flooded with natural light and supremely elegant in navy, white and light wood.

The elegance continues in the conservatory with its colourful cheques on the furnishings and best of all, access to that heated pool and sauna. Take a look outside – all those grounds are yours to enjoy. Perhaps best viewed from one of those sun loungers as you sip a little something and wait for the chefs to create in the kitchen or on the barbecue.

And if (and that’s a big if) you venture beyond your grounds, you’ll discover a world with something for everyone. Great Sussex walks and cycling routes start outside the front gates. A world of kids’ adventures is just a short drive away and for the adults, some of the best pubs and restaurants in Sussex. We said it would a family holiday to remember...

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Two of the five bedrooms are designed specifically for families with en suite showers, king size beds and extra twins, sleeping 12 in total. Bedroom three has garden views. There’s an additional shower room on the ground floor.

Gildridge House was such a great find for our multigenerational family holiday. It was extremely comfortable, very well equipped for catering and young children and offered loads of space to congregate together or break out to a separate area for some quiet time. The pool and sauna were a great hit with everyone. The grounds and local walks were excellent for little ones and older ones to let off some steam. We really enjoyed our time there and would certainly book it again if we were looking to holiday with our extended family in future.

Amazing house would highly recommend. Probably one of the cleanest properties we’ve been to, lovely bedding and towels. Swimming pool was great so big and all our grandchildren loved it especially with the steps in. Adults loved the sauna after swimming. Great welcome pack with a lovely cake. Washing machines, tumble dryers American fridge and large freezer was great. Will definitely go back one day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gildridge House, Everything you need is there, The Pool the Grounds, The House all exceeded our expectations', we had a problem with the hot water, called the owner and within an hour or so this was sorted, We stayed for our 30th wedding anniversary with the children and grand children and there was so much space that we were not on top of each other and everyone, the rooms were spacious and comfy, the kitchen is well equipped with two large fridges. would defiantly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay without having the need to leave and just relaxing as it is so peaceful there.

This house was fantastic for a group of friends and their children. All the rooms were large and the kitchen was really well appointed. So much space for people to chill out separately or all come together in the amazing dining or sun rooms. The owner was lovely and on site if we had any issues. The countryside and farm is beautiful with good walks to good pubs. I can’t wait until next time!

Excellent location, very comfortably furnished and well equipped. Excellent facilities, ideal for families with young children. Close to Knock Hatch adventure park. We used it for a family celebration and had a wonderful time.

A beautiful, historic and spacious house in gorgeous Sussex countryside. We stayed with several branches of our family and everyone was very comfortable. Well-equipped kitchen and bar with everything you need for a warm and welcoming family celebration (the reason we booked the house). Living room is comfortable with multiple sofas and chairs. Dining room is impressive, double-height, seating ten comfortably with a further large table nearby that could be positioned for extra guests. Plenty of room in the conservatory as well including a table which seats eight. There is even a chess table, which our son and his grandpa enjoyed very much! Games cupboard and plenty of books with local interest. A real country-house feel. Our dog was also very happy here. For the dog-owners: the garden is fenced around the boundary but the driveway entrance is not gated but anyway dogs have to be on the lead outside because of the livestock in the fields.
